Status: Unpaid Internship
Duration: 3 months, up to 20 hours per week
Summary:
The Communications internship is an excellent opportunity for students looking to further their social media and media relations skills, while simultaneously gaining first-hand experience working for a major non-profit performing arts institution. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Director of Communications on Philadelphia Orchestra-related projects, including the development of creative social media content, media pitches, and more, supporting long-term strategies of the department. This is an unpaid internship.

Essential Functions:
- Assist with social media content generation and content calendars.
- Assist with daily media clip monitoring and archiving.
- Assist with assembling press kits, clips, and other media materials.
- Assist in writing news releases, media alerts, blog posts, pitches, and other content.
- Assist with researching special projects that promote the programming and educational components of the organization.
- Assist with on-site coverage of the Orchestra’s programs, including escorting media and documenting events on social media.
- Assist with development of YouTube optimization and SEO strategies.
- Assist with research and maintenance of media database.
- Support long-term projects of the department, including the development of historical calendars, organization of media lists, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter
- Strong writing skills and confidence to work with the public and media.
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask.
- Effective time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
- Ability to handle information in a confidential, objective, and professional manner.
- Availability some nights and weekends for concert/event duty.
- Sense of humor.
