Job description

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, and the Technology for Fundamental Rights (TFR) Team, part of the Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) group, plays a crucial role in fulfilling this mission by ensuring compliance with laws and regulations and implementing programs designed to safeguard people’s fundamental rights. This role is critical to the success of both the Corporate Supply Chain Integrity (SCI) and the Human Rights (H Rts) teams. The SCI and Human Rights teams are accountable for advancing TFR’s work on responsible business practices that protect fundamental rights, maintain trust, and advance sustainable outcomes through Microsoft’s products and Supply Chains.
Summary
The Business Program Manager, Supply Chain Integrity & Human Rights plays a pivotal role in the operation of SCI and the collaboration and partnership between SCI and H Rts teams, with a focus on how the teams can leverage their collective work to advance responsible business practices across Microsoft and its Supply Chains. SCI focuses on compliance and thought leadership concerning Supply Chains, necessitating operational excellence to uphold Microsoft’s commitments to Human Rights and the environment within our global Supply Chains. Human Rights focuses on respecting Human Rights, consistent with Microsoft’s commitments to respect international Human Rights laws, principles, and norms, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the work of the United Nations on good governance and the rule of law. This opportunity will focus on improving the fundamental rights of those in and around our Supply Chains.

This work frequently entails close collaboration with and shared priorities in addressing fundamental Human Rights including:
  • Internal and external reporting obligations and opportunities
  • Developing impactful engagements with stakeholders like trade associations and non-governmental organizations
  • Addressing Human Rights in the AI Supply Chain, and
  • Focused work to address gender equality.
The candidate will have experience in Supply Chain due diligence, Human Rights, program development, and strategic partnerships. They will also have shown the ability to understand regulatory requirements and how they correlate to compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities
  • Consistent with strategies identified by the Senior Director of SCI, the Business Program Manager, Supply Chain Integrity & Human Rights will execute strategies to enhance the effectiveness and implementation of policies designed to meet legal requirements, stakeholder expectations and Microsoft commitments.
  • Successful cross-team project management: effective leadership in driving cross-team projects to meet changing business needs, demonstrating adaptability and achievement of team and organization goals.
  • Strategic special project management: successful management of special projects, where appropriate ensuring broad implementation of strategic efforts with hands-on coordination across multiple organizations.
  • Oversee development of process improvements to drive efficiency in Microsoft’s compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.

Specific Cross-Team Responsibilities
  • Program manage the reporting processes for both SCI and H Rts reports and manage the development and implementation of strategies to drive continuous improvement in the consistency, efficiency, content and impact of reporting.
  • Work across SCI and H Rts to develop and implement a cross-company strategy on external engagements, specifically focused on Microsoft-supported trade associations, non-governmental organizations, and other potential external partners related to Human Rights and responsible business practices.
  • Work across SCI, H Rts, and Microsoft teams to drive consistency in understanding and implementation of Microsoft’s commitments to Human Rights, including focus on gender equity issues in our Supply Chains.
  • Develop accountability metrics to expand understanding and action on Microsoft’s Human Rights commitments across the company.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 4+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (the UNGPs) and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises

Business Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.
