ASSISTANT PAYROLL AND BENEFITS MANAGER
Velocity Commercial Capital, LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Velocity Financial, Inc, an NYSE-listed public company. Velocity Commercial Capital is a real estate finance company founded in 2004 that primarily originates and manages investor loans secured by 1–4-unit residential rental and small commercial properties. Velocity Commercial Capital is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Payroll and Benefits Manager. This position is located at the offices in Westlake Village, CA.
The Assistant Payroll and Benefits Manager is responsible for assisting the Payroll and Benefits Manager with the processing of multi-state, biweekly payroll through a computerized payroll system, ADP. They will ensure the correct calculation of employee’ rate of pay, pay increases, garnishments, vacation time, insurance deductions and 401(k) deductions are in compliance with company policy and federal and state laws.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation and processing of biweekly multi-jurisdictional payroll; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions.
- Assisting with the coordination efforts between payroll/Human Resources and other departments to ensure proper maintenance of employee data, including preparation and distribution of detailed reports, e.g., overtime, leave balances, and head count.
- Manage the administration of the electronic timekeeping system; monitor submissions of approved timesheets, ensure valid data transfers to/from payroll service and adherence to FLSA.
- Establish/maintain employee records; ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for compliance with federal/state/local regulations.
- Prepare miscellaneous check requests.
- Assist with responding to inquiries and complies with various federal and state reporting requirements in a timely fashion.
- Conduct compensation related research and reports.
- Ability to run payroll functions as needed as a back up to the Payroll and Benefits Manager.
- Assisting with the coordination of benefit plan updates and wellness programs. Reconciliation of health plan monthly invoicing.
- Assisting with the 401k plan when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years of experience of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with payroll software, ADP
- Proficient with Excel and Microsoft Office
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred

Pay: $68,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
