- DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
- The Assistant to the Directors of Surgical Services provides administrative assistance and support to Surgical Service RN Directors/Managers. During absences of other Nursing Division Assistants, may be asked to provide administrative or secretarial support to the Directors of the Acute Care Division and to some of the Med/Surg Department Directors. The Assistant is required to have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and must be able to independently handle a variety of tasks, make judgements as appropriate and organize and streamline the flow of work. This position requires self-motivation and the ability to initiate correspondence, coordinate multiple projects, work independently, problem solve and organize and process a large volume in an efficient and timely manner.
- POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
- Experience:
- Two or three years of secretarial or office management experience and fluency in word processing and other computer applications required.
- Education and Training:
- High School graduate
- Associate Degree preferred - Business
- Medical terminology preferred
- License, Certification & Registration:
- None
- Other Requirements:
- Must be able to type a minimum of 60 words per minute.
- Proficiency in typing, word processing and transcription from a Dictaphone required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, maintain confidentiality, work independently, exercise good judgement and apply common sense.
- Ability to effectively compose letters, memo’s and other professional business correspondence required.
- Medical Terminology course preferred.
- Proficiency with various computer software programs required, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, SmartWorx and Anson.
