Job Description
Assembles, sorts, distributes, and shelves library books and materials in accordance with a predetermined numerical and/or alphabetical classification. May, at times, provide routine assistance to staff members and patrons under direct supervision of clerk on duty in area and general supervision of professional librarians. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Straightens, dusts, and arranges books on shelves.
- Maintains neat shelves in assigned area.
- Performs public service duties as assigned.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to understand and to follow oral and written directions.
- Mature enough to assume responsibility with a minimum of training.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and public and yet recognize the chain of command.
- Ability to learn repetitive tasks and perform them with attention to detail.
Required Qualifications
High school student minimum for consideration.
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand and walk for considerable periods of time and be able to lift books and other materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability and agility to stoop to place library materials in lower shelves or to use a stool to reach higher shelves. Good health, physical condition, and stability sufficient to permit regular attendance and full performance of the duties of this position. Ninety percent of time is spent in physical maintenance of library shelves.
