Job Title: Staff Accountant - AR/Cost Accounting
Location: Harwood Heights, IL
We are a manufacturing company that makes mechanical components. We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant with a focus on AR/Cost Accounting to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and gain valuable insights into the world of manufacturing accounting.
Job Description: As a Staff Accountant focused on AR/Cost Accounting, you will play a key role in supporting our finance team's daily and monthly activities. Initially, you will assist with tasks such as completing journal entries, collecting payments from customers, and closing daily production jobs. As you become familiar with these responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to dive deeper into cost accounting under the guidance of our experienced team members.
AR/Cost Responsibilities:
- Prepare approximately 20 journal entries for month-end closing
- Close production jobs on a daily basis
- Assist with month-end close entries as provided by senior team members
- Conduct daily job variance analysis under the guidance of senior staff
- Reconcile accounts receivable on a monthly basis
- Assist with annual cost roll process
- Handle monthly RPIVAL negatives and set up new customers as needed
- Perform nightly invoicing tasks and assist with miscellaneous invoices
- Support audit activities and produce necessary documentation
- Conduct collections activities and perform mix analysis as required
- Assist with manual deposits for physical checks
- Generate PPR (Production Performance Reports)
Requirements:Must-haves:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 0-3+ years of experience, with a preference for candidates with at least 6+ months of relevant experience
- Proficiency in Excel, specifically VLOOKUPS and Pivot Tables (knowledge of XLOOKUPS is a plus)
- Willingness to work on-site full-time (100% onsite presence required)
- Ability to work regular 8-5 hours with occasional extra hours during month-end close
Pluses:
- Experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of CPA principles or a master's degree in accountancy
- Familiarity with journal entries, month-end close processes, and account reconciliation
- Previous experience working in a manual accounting system (experience with automation is a plus)
