Position Title:Accounting Director
Reports to: Vice President of Finance
Status: Exempt
Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 Annually, plus a generous PTO and benefits package

Currently, we serve more than 15,000 people a year through our integrated programs in six St. Paul neighborhoods.
Today, we are in the middle stage of the Hope In Action Campaign for Neighborhood House, a $17.5 million campaign that will significantly expand and enhance programs and build stability for the long term needs within our community.

Division Summary
The Neighborhood House Accounting Director is a vital member of the organization’s Director Team, collaborating with fundraising, program and operations Directors to ensure that all financial transactions are managed properly in order to ensure maximum mission impact. In addition to ensuring high-quality, timely accounting practices, the Accounting Director supports all budget owners within the organization in understanding the financial information that supports mission success and fiscal responsibility.
Position Summary
The Accounting Director manages various accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank accounts reconciliations, monitoring of government contracts and audit prep work. The Accounting Director ensures the timeliness and accuracy of payments, deposits, journal entries, billings to other agencies and supervises accounting staff. We are seeking a driven, servant-oriented, people-focused leader committed to Neighborhood House’s success and well-being.
As part of these responsibilities, the Accounting Director leads:
Transaction Accounting
- · Data entry in accounting system – bills, coding, receipts, deposits
- · Bank transactions
- · Support to HR for payroll and W2 processing including payroll allocations
- Accounts Receivable, Payable Processing
- · Prepare monthly bills for government agencies and other accounts receivable
- · Weekly payables approval and processing
- · Ensure fidelity to proper internal controls.
Grant Accounting
- · Provide budgets for proposals,
- · Manage contracts
- · Provide needed financial information for reporting
Weekly and Month-end Accounting Processes
- · Coordinate with Fundraising team members to ensure consistent coding and restrictions
- · Confirm coding of and process approved online bill payments.
- · Monitor bank and credit card accounts.
- · Reconcile bank accounts.
- · Post prepaid, depreciation, and other monthly journal entries.
- · Prepare and post revenue recognition and restriction release journal entries.
- · Prepare and post allocations for shared costs and administrative costs.
- · Prepare financial reports for Vice President of Finance.
Audit Preparation
- · Collaborate with Vice President of Finance for annual audit work
Staff Management
- · Hire and manage accounting staff
- · Foster a positive, collaborative, fun, and productive team environment
Qualifications:
- · Several years of experience working in an organizational accounting function involving multiple revenue and expense sources, including responsibility for general ledger entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly and annual reporting and budgeting; experience with government grants preferred
- · Experience hiring and supervising staff in an inclusive manner with high accountability
- · Able to pay attention to the small things, keep track of tasks that need to be accomplished, and to limit distractions
- · High level of organization and time management skills
- · Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- · Must be able to maintain confidentiality and exercise judgment over the treatment of sensitive issues and interdepartmental needs
- · Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds
- · Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in English
- · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, plus knowledge of Sage Intacct or similar financial software
- · Bilingual in English and Spanish, Hmong, Karen or Somali preferred
