Enrollment Management

Financial Aid

The Assistant Director for Financial Aid holds a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership and administrative guidance within the Financial Aid office at Georgia State University. The ideal candidate must have knowledge of all functions of the Banner Financial Aid system: new-year setup and testing, rule creation, fund management, and packaging.  Also, possess proficiency in programming languages (e.g., ProC, PL/SQL). This position also ensures timely processing of Financial Aid while adhering to all relevant policies and regulations.

  • Student Engagement: Over 83% of the university's 50,000+ students across 6 campuses required engagement with the Financial Aid office during Fall Semester 2019.
  • Aid Disbursement: Over 46,000 students receive awards annually, directly influenced by the oversight and management of this position and its team.
  • Risk Mitigation: Any errors in awarding or returning funds to students could lead to fines or removal of the University from the Title IV program, emphasizing the criticality of maintaining accuracy and compliance.

  • Ellucian Banner System

  • Leverage technology usingProC, PL/SQL.
  • Set up and test new year systems in Banner, working closely with IT on system releases.
  • Create selection sets to identify students with C-flags and other FAFSA issues requiring resolution.
  • Create new funds as needed in Banner, establishing accurate awarding rules.
  • Manage transfer of information between Banner and CampusLogic software.
  • Performing any other Financial Aid processes and testing in Banner as needed.
  • Department of Education Systems

  • Send and receive Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) files and corrections via EDConnect software.
  • Send/receive Pell and Direct Loan files to/from the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Transfer student monitoring through the NSLDS system.
  • Packaging Aid

  • Update packaging, tracking, and budget group definitions and rules as required to ensure federal, state, and institutional aid is awarded correctly.
  • Work with the Director to update student budgets each year.
  • Identify changes in eligibility and repackage awards as needed.
  • Oversee production and release of award letters.
  • Complete summer packaging, updating all necessary processes and rules as required.
  • Coordinate with Admissions for prospective student packaging.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree and three years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

    Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Financial Aid administration, with demonstrated expertise in Title IV compliance, electronic processing, federal funds management, and team leadership.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for coordinating inter-departmental efforts and external compliance measures.
    • Extensive knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Banner Document Management (BDM).
    • Familiarity with Department of Education software and websites.
    • Knowledge of DocuSign, Qualtrics, and Argos.
    • Experience with SQL preferred.
    • Ability to analyze FAFSA information and apply federal, state, and institutional awarding policies.
    • Strong analytical abilities.
    • Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines.
