Position Summary
Martin's Point Health Care is seeking an experienced physician leader to join our senior leadership team as Vice President of Medical Staff in Portland, Maine. Iconic lighthouses, lobsters and surf crashing on the rocky shore are just some of the things you'll experience living and working on the coast of Maine. The greater Portland area is filled with nationally top ranked restaurants, performing arts and recreational opportunities from the ocean to the mountains.
The Vice President of Medical Staff will report into our Chief Operating Officer of Delivery System and will collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Delivery System Operations to develop, oversee, and execute both tactical and strategic elements of the delivery system business plan. The VP of Medical Staff will ensure that Medical Staff perform to standards of excellence in all aspects of their work to include patient access, financial measures, quality, patient experience, and citizenship. In this role, you will practice as a primary care physician two days a week at one of our six health care centers. You will serve as a model for delivering on the organization's mission, vision, culture, and values.
Qualified candidates must have an active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Maine, board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, active DEA license, 10+ years of direct patient care experience and 5+ years of leadership/management experience.
Job Description
Key Outcomes:
Collaboration: Works collaboratively and in alignment with the VP of Delivery System Operations, the VP of Quality and Health Information, the Chief Medical Officer, and the Chief Operating Officer of the Delivery System to support broad organizational goals including those of our health plans and shared services.
Organizational Committee Memberships and key assignments:

  • Senior Leadership Team
  • Delivery System Senior Leadership Team
  • Delivery System Directors Council
  • PMD Roundtable (serves as Chair)
  • Peer Review Committee
  • Provider Compensation Committee

Clinical Responsibilities: 16 patient contact hours per week at a dedicated health care center but may, from time to time, support any of our six health care centers.
Program, People and Process Development: Is responsible for program development, monitoring and performance including but not limited to the following areas:
  • Provider engagement and performance
  • Provider recruitment and workforce planning
  • Innovation in the delivery of care to patients of MPHC
  • Provider leadership development
  • Key performance indicators for clinical operations in the Delivery System
  • Compensation plan development and management including incentive plans (quality, productivity and others that may be developed)

Education/Experience:
  • Medical Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Maine
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in New Hampshire preferred
  • Active DEA License
  • 10+ years of direct patient care experience required
  • 10+ years of applicable experience with at least three of those years in managed care required
  • 5+ years of experience in management and leadership roles
  • Demonstrated experience working with physicians, nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants to deploy best clinical practices
  • Knowledge of local provider community (preferred)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to establish rapport and working relationships with providers, service vendors, employers, regulatory and community groups.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to tailor message to a variety of audience levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage a physician team
  • Successful utilization of process improvement tools and methods to achieve results
