  • Associate Vice President for Philanthropy

    Maine Medical Center

     

    Maine Medical Center (MMC) is seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Philanthropy to continue to expand its success. Reporting to the Vice President for Philanthropy, the AVP for Philanthropy’s primary responsibilities will address the organization’s highest strategic funding priorities while leading a team of front-line fundraisers, researchers, and donor relations professionals. In addition to serving as a lead fundraiser focusing on cultivating major gift prospects, the AVP will provide management, strategic direction, and operational coordination of major gifts and campaigns. This will include all aspects of major donor development: donor pipeline, gift planning, donor research, donor relations and engagement, stewardship, capital giving, gift planning and corporate and foundation relations.

    This role represents a great opportunity for a strong development professional to expand their career growth as the number two development officer at the largest employer in Maine and the largest health system in northern New England. The AVP will be both a leader of people and campaigns and an individual contributor to a dynamic organization with fresh leadership, an excellent reputation, and a focus on its mission of working together so our communities are the healthiest in America.

    The AVP will develop a strategy and execute a program that will generate a minimum of a rolling average of $20-$25 million in revenue on an annual basis. At times this work is done in collaboration with MaineHealth system colleagues with overlapping donors.

    The AVP is a highly visible resource and partner with the Vice President for Philanthropy, Southern Region President, Board Members, community CEO's and leaders, key physicians and scientists, high-level volunteers, and administrative colleagues to identify and  develop donor relationships to increase philanthropic support for all MMC strategic philanthropic priorities. The Associate Vice President for Philanthropy direct reports currently includes Leadership Gifts, donor relations and strategic projects, donor research, planned giving, and grants.

    Maine Medical Center’s philanthropic scope also covers The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and provides collegial counsel to MaineHealth’s other health care organizations. The MMC philanthropy team’s recently completed capital campaign – “The NEXT 150” – exceeded its fundraising goal by more than 20% upon its close at the end of 2022 and secured $184 million in funding to support the hospital’s renovation/expansion, infrastructure, patient care, academic medicine, and innovation/research.

    Maine Medical Center is seeking a skilled and experienced AVP who will carry a significant portfolio of potential donors while also leading a team of  15 or more philanthropy professionals. The ideal candidate will also bring experience leading major campaigns and working closely with boards and senior leadership of a large organization.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Master’s Degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • License/Certifications: FAHP, CFRE and or CFAP  preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in philanthropy or major gift development with at least five years of team leadership experience. Health care experience preferred but not required.
