Description

Thomas College, a private business and liberal arts college in Waterville, Maine, seeks a dynamic new Vice President of Advancement. Founded in 1894, Thomas offers a rich professional studies curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students in a wide variety of programs including business, arts and sciences, criminal justice, psychology, education, and technology. Thomas is focused on providing an accessible and affordable quality education to any student who is motivated to work hard and succeed. Thomas provides a supportive learning environment for all students - many of whom are first-generation college students - and encourages them to discover and fulfill their unique potential. Thomas is particularly distinctive for offering its students unparalleled career development backed by its unique Guaranteed Job Program.

A strong, vibrant college poised for significant growth and a tremendous future, Thomas College serves Maine students - and students drawn to Maine - who are committed to working toward a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Seventy-five (75) percent of Thomas students come from Maine, and an equivalent percentage choose to stay and work in the state. Committed to quality teaching and to the application of technology at both the graduate and undergraduate level, Thomas offers broad opportunities for professional development and promotes economic prosperity through long-term community partnerships.

The ideal candidate will possess: a deep love for the mission and vision of Thomas College, a deep respect for the students we serve and the full campus community, a willingness to roll up their sleeves and work side-by-side with their Advancement teammates and colleagues throughout the college community to get the job done, a "can-do" attitude, and a heartfelt belief in the power of education to transform lives.

Aiding the President as the institution's chief development officer, the VP oversees all of the College's fundraising efforts associated with capital campaigns, annual fund, planned giving, endowed scholarships, public and private foundation grants, special events and corporate philanthropic support and sponsorship opportunities. In addition to development, the VP is also responsible for oversight and management of the College's Alumni Relations. The VP is the lead staff member of the Board's Advancement Committee and Nomination and Governance Committee. The VP is responsible for creating, updating, and implementing a comprehensive and strategic development plan with implementation schedules and evaluation metrics.

The Vice President provides direct supervision to key members of his/her staff, and has ultimate responsibility for the planning, establishing, executing, and reporting of department goals and objectives; operational budgets, analysis and fiscal management associated with his/her department, and the performance evaluation of staff.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have ten years combined experience with increasing responsibility in the non-profit or for-profit business sector; particular emphasis on general management, organizational development, and financial management experience. Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-function organization in fund raising, member engagement, alumni relations, and special events; effectively manage professional, managerial and support staff and to apply sound principles of human resource management; experience in managing funds, budgets, property and other assets with integrity and accountability. Graduate degree preferred, four-year college degree required; experience in higher education desirable. Extensive contact with the public; some travel, night, and weekend work. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred, and experience with Raisers Edge or a similar product.

Thomas offers a competitive benefits package to include:  Medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, 6% 403(b) matching plan, paid vacation, paid sick leave, thirteen paid holidays, on-site gym, meal discounts and free tuition for employees, spouse and dependent children.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should be sure to include cover letter, resume, and three professional references.

Thomas College is an equal opportunity employer.
Thomas College's mission is to prepare students for success in their personal and professional lives, and for leadership and service in their communities.
