Title: Senior Utility Asset Management Engineer

Location:  The Power presence in the US is strong in the following areas: our ideal candidate can work from any of the following office locations to partner with employees and clients in person.  Relocation available for best/most qualified applicant.

The Senior Utility Asset Management Engineer (“Specialist”) will work within a multi-disciplinary team to support both the execution of secured projects and business development activities to grow the pipeline of opportunities within the US and Canadian regions.  This role can be based out of several Hatch offices in the US or Canada.

 

As an Accredited Asset Management Assessor, and a Corporate Member of The Institute of Asset Management (IAM), Hatch is expanding activities in the Asset Management, asset performance management (APM), and asset investment planning (AIP) advisory and implementation services supporting generation, transmission, and distribution electric utilities.

 

Experience and knowledge that the Specialist would be expected to both bring to the team and develop while in the position includes:

  • Asset Management System development, refinement, and alignment with ISO5500X standards
  • Asset risk analytics, value framework development and refinement, vulnerability assessments, and resiliency planning
  • Reliability engineering and data analytics, statistical methodologies, and machine learning
  • Asset custom failure curve development, damage assessments, and root cause investigations
  • Asset health index formulation, condition assessment inspections & monitoring, and performance modelling
  • Development and regulatory support with Asset Management Plans (AMPs), DSPs, IRPs, load forecasting, and grid modernization technology business cases
  • Planning for, and the implementation and integration support of the integration of various EAM, APM, and AIP solutions

 

Project Delivery Responsibilities May Include

 

  • Solve challenging client problems that could include planning, business case development, implementation, monitoring, or assessments of any project scope referenced above
  • For smaller to medium projects, the Specialist may become responsible for day-to-day project management functions, while also delivering on client expectations
  • For larger projects, the Specialist may lead smaller work packages or support the advancement and creation of project deliverables
  • Deliver tasks in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Hatch’s policies and procedures, including Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, & Quality Control
  • Support the identification of potential partners such as vendors or niche specialists
  • Work alongside and/or support delivery of projects from other Hatch teams, as applicable

 

Business Development Responsibilities May Include

 

  • Leading and/or participation in Bid/NoBid discussions for potential opportunities
  • Leading and/or supporting the creation of proposals, including methodology and level of effort estimates
  • Create thought papers, abstracts, & white papers to expand market awareness of the expertise within the team & Hatch’s overall offerings
  • Attending trade conferences and industry association meetings, as applicable
  • Following-up with potential clients on leads generated from various business development opportunities

 

Specialist Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant utility sector or utility consulting experience, with at least 4 years of experience specifically supporting as a consultant, or working within Asset Management / capital planning teams of an electric utility, or other industries with heavy utility-scale electric infrastructure
  • Slid understanding of electrical equipment, infrastructure, maintenance practices, and ability to review and interpret planviews, single line, and key electrical equipment drawings
  • Strong knowledge of the core aspects of Electrical Engineering, particularly in relation to generation, transmission, and/or distribution assets, as applicable
  • Experience with Asset Management roadmap development and/or programs for electrical infrastructure
  • Knowledge of the requirements within Asset Management standards ISO 55000, 55001, and 55002
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts and applicable statistical methodologies
  • Experience with data analytics and Asset Management software tools such as Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), asset performance management (APM), and investment planning (AIP) decision support tools
  • Familiarity in conducting asset life cycle cost analysis and maturity assessments/gap analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other applicable technical degree, preferably electrical
  • Preference will be given to candidates with professional certifications in Asset Management (e.g., CAMA, IAM-Diploma/certification)

 

This position reports to the Regional Manager of the Utility Asset Management. Occasional domestic and international travel to client and site locations is required.
