The Collections & Research Strategy department (8 librarians, 1 staff) develops and manages collections aligned with the strengths of the university through collaboration with the university community and creative use of analytics across the broader digital environment. Librarians and staff in this department actively liaise with faculty and students to build and manage collections across all subject areas; foster collaboration and interdisciplinary interactions among faculty and research teams; conduct ongoing collection assessment; and collaboratively provide services for faculty, staff, and students across the research lifecycle, including information discovery, data management, research impact, application of research tools, and scholarly communication.
Essential Job Duties
The University Library Technician (Advanced) provides support for daily operations of the Collections & Research Strategy department as well as program support (e.g., demand driven collections, outreach and marketing of collections resources) and project support. The incumbent works closely with librarians who are responsible for collection management and research services. This position also plays a vital customer service role by interfacing with faculty, researchers, students, staff, vendors, and community members and is often as a first point of contact for questions and troubleshooting. The position reports to the Department Head, Collections & Research Strategy.
Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Triaging requests and coordinating workflows for streaming media and working with patrons and library staff to support communications to patrons, vendors, and community members who seek information and help with collections resources.
  • Managing demand driven acquisition programs.
  • Writing and collaboratively distributing promotional information to improve discovery and awareness of our collections and services.
  • Assisting with collection assessment data using specialized bibliographic tools and administrative portals.
  • Assisting with projects to support our research services including, but not limited to, our data management plan review service.
  • Providing general office support including handling facilities and supply requests, scheduling and taking minutes at meetings, and updating departmental documentation for the Libraries' intranet, public web pages, and social media.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising a student assistant.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to collect, manipulate, and analyze data in spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, e.g., Google suite and Excel

  • Ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, including the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
  • Ability to meet high service standards in all interactions (virtual, in-person, email, chat, phone)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Familiarity with the content of collections and resources provided in a modern library environment sufficient to assist students and faculty with collections questions and related issues
  • Knowledge of web publishing applications, such as Drupal
