Job Description for Underwriting Assistant:
- Takes calls from clients for policy changes and certificates of insurance and processes them as needed.
- Enters all policy and underwriting information into agency management system.
- Reviews correspondence, records and reports to select routine matters for processing.
- Corresponds with insureds to update information prior to renewal and as needed throughout the policy period.
- Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps and past claims to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant’s financial standing, business operations, loss experience, and value of property, vehicles, inventory, and equipment.
- Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline risks within authority level.
- Consults with field representatives, insurance agents or brokers and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates or explain company underwriting policies.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years Underwriting/CSR experience in commercial lines and 2 years college education.
- Property/Casualty license or willingness to obtain the license.
- Must be organized, professional and have excellent customer service skills.
