The Tailored Lending (“TL”) Group within Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is seeking a high potential, experienced Underwriting Transactor (“UT”) to help grow and manage the Ultra High Net Worth (“UHNW”) Commercial Real Estate (“CRE") lending platform serving UHNW clients (generally clients with a minimum net worth of at least $50 million) of WM.
The UT role is for the New York area and will support and collaborate with the UHNW Senior Lending Transactors (“SLTs”) and Asset Managers (“AMs”) throughout the US.
Position Summary
- Position goal is to support and underwrite for the UHNW CRE Lending team, regional SLTs, AMs and its clients in underwriting and delivering the UHNW CRE product.
- Responsibilities will include the following:
a) Evaluate UHNW Lending opportunities specific to Commercial Real Estate, which will include: i) analyzing obligors; ii) valuation of the underlying collateral; and iii) determining if the opportunity aligns with the UHNW Commercial Real Estate Lending program.
b) Performing the underwriting and due diligence with regards to the collateral property and sponsors, including evaluating appropriate financial and non-financial information necessary for opportunity assessment.
c) Prepare and/or assist the SLTs with the preparation of the underwriting credit memoranda clearly outlining transaction, purpose, strengths, risks and mitigants, financial/collateral analysis and other key terms and conditions required to support credit approval.
d) Identify key risk and mitigants related to existing loans and new opportunities and propose potential structural protections and other terms and conditions that may mitigate such risk.
e) Efficiently manage the transaction including underwriting, final credit approval, documentation, closing and initial funding of the transaction ensuring timely coordination with all parties involved including Credit Risk Management (“CRM”), Financial Advisors, Private Bankers, Loan Operations, Compliance, Counsel and any other party who is, or should be, involved in the specific transaction.
f) Engage in on-going portfolio maintenance ensuring accurate and timely update of loan portfolio metrics / reports, as needed.
g) Conduct annual relationship and loan reviews to monitor collateral performance during the term of the loan.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in Commercial Real Estate lending underwriting, origination and/or credit analysis
- Private Banking Lending experience is a plus.
- Formal credit training a plus

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $80,000 and $125,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
