Job description

Position Summary  
The Student Recruitment Manager (SRM) is responsible for planning and implementing a targeted Student Recruitment plan to achieve our schools’ enrollment goals, including activities like community outreach, new family engagement, and direct new Student Recruitment. The SRM will achieve enrollment goals by managing other team members and by advancing the work as an individual contributor. 60-80% of their work will be in the field.  
 
The SRM will work to coordinate closely with school teams and families to mobilize and organize champions for recruitment activities, identify other local organizations to hold info sessions, establish info tables at events, canvass neighborhoods, and develop and implement programs that support recruitment efforts.   
 
To be successful in this role, the SRM brings a track record for designing and implementing successful recruitment strategies, family and community engagement, and experience building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. The SRM should be a goal-oriented self-starter who is comfortable working in an environment that requires managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines, while never losing sight of the overarching goals and desired outcomes.   
 
This is a 40 hour/week role that requires work on weekends, evenings and some holidays. The role will require a minimum of two hours per day canvassing in Stockton neighborhoods.
 
Preferred Qualifications  
 
Experience:  
  • 2+ years of experience with recruitment-related work preferably in a community engagement or advocacy organization, business, nonprofit, or education service.   
  • Proven experience organizing and mobilizing teams or volunteers toward a common goal.  
  • Service-oriented, able to adapt to a changing environment while applying flexibility to work under pressure and remain calm in the midst of competing demands.  

 

Knowledge/skills required:  
  • Strong cultural competency skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population.  
  • Capacity to hire, lead, manage and support other team members.  
  • Exceptional project management skills, with an ability to juggle multiple priorities at once.   
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an energetic attitude; ability to engage, cultivate, and steward relationships with community and organizational partners effectively and build rapport.   
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to quickly produce high-quality work.  
  • Time management and organizational skills.  
  • Highly-motivated and self-starter / self-directed learner with a “whatever it takes” attitude to work independently and as a team player.  
  • Integrity and commitment to the KIPP mission and communities.  
  • Proficiency with Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Google Drive), with the ability to quickly learn new technologies (SchoolMint, video conferencing apps, etc) used by our organization.  
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between campuses and to and from community events / meetings. Mileage for work travel is reimbursable.  
  • Strongly prefer fluency in spoken and written Spanish.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

   
Lead and Execute Recruitment Strategy for all KIPP: Stockton Schools  
  • Lead and manage KIPP Stockton’s family outreach and Student Recruitment strategy , including designing the strategy and plan, managing the team and executing the work. 80% of the work is expected to be on the ground recruitment.  
  • Represent KIPP at key community events, fairs, festivals, outreach or media events that will bolster enrollment.   
  • Execute a robust door-to-door canvass campaign in the neighborhoods surrounding the schools, with daily canvassing and recruiting activities during peak recruitment season.  
  • Build and cultivate relationships with community leaders and organizations, garner their support and establish partnerships that support Student Recruitment.   
  • Work with school leaders, faculty, and staff in planning school-based open houses, enrollment information meetings, and other school-based recruitment events.  
  • Network and build positive relationships with existing families and staff to recruit friends and family members in order to access their local networks to support recruitment goals and provide opportunities for teacher and family participation in recruitment events.  
  • Support school based teams in routinely reaching-out to prospective and newly accepted families to keep them engaged, excited and informed about the school.  

  Team management   

  • Develop and manage up to 2-3 other Family Ambassadors/recruiters, as well as other temporary staff including volunteers and interns to drive on-the-ground Student Recruitment and meet application goals and metrics.  
  • Engage school and regional teams to support the recruitment efforts as needed.   
  • Hire and train new staff/volunteers in coordination with school and central office staff.  
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Enrollment and other SRMs to train and organize staff to execute on recruitment and enrollment activities and procedures with high quality.  
  • Lead meetings with all school leaders and/or operations leaders to inform and drive progress.  
 
Project Management and progress monitoring  
  • Ensure the strong implementation of a robust Student Recruitment plan to meet benchmark goals, ensuring broad involvement and participation from various stakeholders.  
  • Project manage all outreach activities and lead management.   
  • Track and analyze progress on Student Recruitment and enrollment across KIPP schools in the subregions managed to meet enrollment goals.   
  • Report out regular updates on progress towards goals. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands  

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves walking. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.  

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and general alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.   

Environmental: Office/school/field environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions and frequent travel. 

Classification  

This is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar and time-off schedule, located at either our Regional Office in Stockton, with the expectation that 80% of the time is spent implementing on the ground recruitment activities.

Compensation  
KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.  
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $69,000-$78,000 annually. Most candidates would be compensated at the starting point of the range: $69,000.
