Job description

Position Context: The mission of the Reinvent Stockton Foundation is to intentionally invest in and rigorously evaluate collective impact strategies and other force multipliers that will improve quality of life for Stockton residents. Our flagship program is Stockton Scholars, a college promise program founded in 2018 by Michael Tubbs and dedicated to guiding young people to higher education and an impactful life. Stockton Scholars has grown to partner with students, families, and the local community to create a clear path through higher education for all Stockton youth. By providing support, resources, and mentorship to make the college process simple and achievable, we will change lives in Stockton— for young people, their families, and their city.

With an initial donation of $20 million from the Spiegel Family Foundation, Stockton Scholars will provide $1,000 a year to students who will be attending 4-year universities and $500 a year to students attending 2-year colleges or trade schools. This scholarship is open to all seniors attending a public high school in Stockton through the class of 2028!

The ideal candidate is passionate about the mission of Stockton Scholars and committed to providing equitable access to higher education. The Student Engagement & Persistence Manager will implement postsecondary success and completion efforts. This position will be responsible for providing: guidance, leadership, and program development to Stockton Scholars. This position will oversee our Attendance Pathways and other programs. This is a public facing position. The ideal candidate would have strong communication, public speaking and writing skills.

Reliable transportation is required for frequent travel. Occasional evening or weekend events are required for this role.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual retention plan for current scholarship recipients who are enrolled in higher education. This plan will leverage data and evidence-based practices to enhance student outcomes and academic progress.

  • Mentor Program: The Mentor Program connects Scholars with a professional mentor who will walk alongside them on their academic journey for a minimum of 2 academic years. You will manage mentor matching, mentor recruitment, and mentor training.
  • Community Colleges: The Community College Pathway consists of two, in person, on campus group meetings. During the meetings students will gain knowledge on acclimating to community college, how to navigate their academics journey, creating work/life balance, graduation/transfer pathways, CTE options, and campus resources.
