Position Summary
Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Senior Director for Student Engagement and First Year Experience will champion opportunities for Student Engagement and leadership development for all students at Prairie State College. This will be done through supervision, planning, and program management. The Senior Director supervises one full-time Assistant Director and student staff with a focus on leadership development, First Year programs and initiatives, and civic engagement. The Senior Director co-advises Prairie State College Student Government Association, ensures a positive experience for involvement in student clubs and organizations, and centers student experiences through data informed interactive and transformational experiences. The Senior Director leads the campus-wide engagement committee, producing vibrant and lasting opportunities for student connections and development. The Senior Director works collaboratively with faculty, administrators and staff across the college to create a learning environment that fosters the holistic development of first-year students and helps them acculturate to college and take ownership of their education and future.
Reporting and Supervisory Relationships
- Dual reporting relationship to the Dean of Students and the Vice President of Student Affairs.
- Direct supervisory relationship of Assistant Director of Student Life
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee the day to day operations of Student Life and First Year Experience
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with campus partners and key stakeholders.
- Lead team in the development of ongoing, year-round, co-curricular programs that are consistent with the Division's established mission. Ensure that programming is representative of the student body and reflects Prairie State's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
- Develops programming that assists first-year students in making a successful transition to college including New Student Orientation, FYE Programming, Welcome Days/Weeks, First Five Week programming, etc.
- Lead team in assessment and strategic focus of Student Engagement and leadership development using best practices.
- Oversee the student fee allocation in collaboration with student government and according to college board policies.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, as they relate to job responsibilities.
- Represent Student Engagement and Student Affairs on committees throughout the college as needed.
- Participates in ongoing professional development activities.
- Facilitates purchasing to support the needs of the area.
- Performs other appropriate professional and administrative duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Three years of experience in a relevant position in higher education.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a broad constituency and relate well with diverse students and staff.
- High ethical and professional standards and a commitment to service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in higher education, student services or related field.
- Full-time experience working with first-year students in a community college.
- Experience working with first-generation or underrepresented student populations.
- Experience using Colleague, Banner, or a similar integrated database software for higher education.
- Supervisory experience.
Anticipated Work Hours and Days
Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Salary
minimum starting $60,492 salary commensurate with experience
