GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention will play a vital role in the development, planning, and execution of student access-related programs and activities for the Chicago Difference and Hope Scholars cohort(s). The Assistant Director will oversee the Student Success Coaching model, Graduate Assistants for the Chicago Difference Initiative, and serve as a recruitment liaison for the program. This position will also serve as the campus contact for the Hope Scholars Initiative. Additionally, this position is also responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing student engagement initiatives, programs, and activities. The Assistant Director collaborates with various campus stakeholders to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes student involvement, personal growth, and leadership development.
COMMUNICATIONS
Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Student Access and Career Planning, the Assistant Director will be responsible for representing the department through various Admissions events and working collaboratively with senior leaders within Enrollment Management, Advancement, Marketing and communications, and other departments to implement and assess program recruitment and Retention. Staff will provide written, verbal, and electronic communications, as well as presentations for institution staff, students, faculty, the general public, potential students, families, other institutions, etc. Staff will interact frequently with internal contacts and have recurring interactions with external constituents. Proven ability to work collaboratively across units and sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of diverse populations is required.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Specific duties for this role include collaborating across multiple university departments such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Career Services, Advancement, Student Health and wellness, Campus Life, Event Services, and others to contribute to recruitment and Retention efforts for current and incoming Chicago Difference and Hope Scholar cohort(s). Under the direction of the Senior Director, this position will assist with retention and orientation efforts for the entire calendar year that include new student orientation & SOAR for Chicago Difference students. Other responsibilities include ongoing program assessment and tracking of student development and engagement and support with implementing strategic initiatives.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Required, Masters's Degree preferred in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of higher education experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working with first-generational undergraduate students
- Experience working CRM application management processes and systems including but not limited to Salesforce, TargetX, and Banner for an educational institution
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, perform multiple assignments, and complete projects promptly
- This position will require a flexible work schedule, including some nights and weekends
- Proven ability to work independently, excellent communication and presentation skills, sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of diverse populations, and ability to manage goals
- Ability to multi-task and handle a wide variety of job duties and prioritize based on supervisory direction.
- The candidate will need to be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
The Assistant Director will oversee a team of 10+ Student Success Coaches and 2 Graduate Assistants. Students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Student Employment Management
- Manage and train 2 Graduate Assistants and 10-15 Student Success Coaches.
- Training & retraining are not limited to weekly meetings, facilitating questions, student complaints, approving timesheets, emails, group interactions, student referrals, etc.
- Manage student communication not limited to weekly newsletters, flyers, events, social media, and other opportunities across campus.
- Mentor student leaders and guide their personal and leadership development.

Retention and Student Support
- Establish and manage regular tracking of Chicago differences and hope scholars students in EAB Navigate.
- Manage Student coaches to complete lifecycle touchpoints with learners actively, enter them into the EAB system to actively provide support, and identify escalations required in coordination with other university departments and academic units. Provide necessary support interventions with students as required.
- Overall responsible for retention of all Chicago differences from enrollment to graduation.

Hope Scholars Program Management
- Serve as a campus contact
- Manage and track the overall assessment of the Hope Scholars program
- Execute data requests
- Facilitate student check-ins during the beginning, middle, and end of the semester.
- Manage and provide updates within the Hope Scholars App System.

Recruitment
- Develop prospective scholar/student orientation with the Advancement team
- Partner with Undergraduate Admission and Elevate College Prep to build relationships with CPS partners and act as an advisor for outreach and strategic enrollment initiatives. Duties may include representation at school visits, on-campus recruitment events, and partner meetings.
- Throughout the year, collaborate with Elevate College Prep to build programming for CPS partners to create an enrollment pipeline for grades 9-12 through The Chicago Difference.
- In the spring, collaborate with Undergraduate Admission to select and onboard the upcoming fall cohort of Chicago Difference scholars.
- Connect current Chicago Difference Scholars with incoming scholars upon cohort selection in February.
