JOB TITLE: Director of Student Success (Chicago Campus)

FLSA STATUS:  Salaried, exempt

DEPARTMENT: Academic Success Center

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Retention  

JOB STATUS: Full-time (at least 37.5 hours/week)

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Success provides leadership for services that build and sustain students’ academic development and access to support services. The Director also facilitates discussions on innovative and collaborative learning support practices, particularly on long-range co-curricular planning and holistic academic interventions, before they are grown to scale. This role works directly with the Executive Director of Academics at the Chicago Campus to coordinate support and intervention inside and outside of the classroom also working to co-facilitate faculty and staff data dives on the student experience.

 

This role also ensures the coordination of Student Success operations including but not limited to class registration (use of Stellic degree planning tool), supports along with facility manager Chicago Campus space utilization, and contributes to the coordination of the City as Campus engagement model.  

 

As a member of the Student Success and Engagement Division, the Director of Student Success will collaborate with colleagues to identify and remove institutional obstacles to Student Success and engagement and support the success of all students enrolled at the Dominican University Chicago Campus.

JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Advising/Learning Support and Success & Administration

  • Lead the delivery and coordination of support services empowering students to actualize personalized care plans inclusive of advising, disability accommodations, and engagement in academic support interventions with the support of the Chicago Campus Case Manager.
  • Collaborate with members of the Dominican University Student Success team, led by Executive Director of Retention, creating pathways for students to maximize their potential through high-impact curricular experiences  
  • Provide budget oversight for Chicago CampusStudent Success initiatives
  • Oversee logistics of Student services including handling space reservations, scheduling, implementation, and technology platform coordination as it pertains to disability accommodations
  • Collaborate to establish campus-specific policies and procedures to support student academic progress, such as academic notice, satisfactory academic progress for financial aid.
  • Provide support for faculty development & training through workshops, departmental visits, and one-on-one consultations with guidance from Chicago Campus Executive Director of Academics.

 

Bridge Co-Curricular Learning

  • Collaborate cross-departmentally on initiatives working to bridge curricular and co-curricular learning and programming through the City as Campus experiential design
  • Assure the continuous improvement of the course and academic success interventions in partnership with the Chicago Campus Executive Director of Academics

 

Supervision & Administration

  • Supervise the Chicago CampusStudent Success Case Manager, ensuring coordination with the River Forest Student Success team
  • Train and supervise peer and professional support staff

 

Case Management

  • Serve as administrator of early alert and referral system at the Chicago Campus, reviewing new reports and assigning cases to the appropriate case manager
  • Serve on the Assessment and Care Team (ACT) to coordinate support for complex student cases
  • Provide coordination through oversight of the Chicago Campus Case Manager to provide space and technology coordination as it pertains to disability accommodations and support.

Data

  • Leverage student performance data and evidence-based research to guide the development, oversight, and ongoing evaluation of programmatic, advising, and academic support strategies.

 

Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team that includes faculty, professional staff, and students 
  • Supervisory experience in an academic support or Student Success/student development program
  • Teaching, tutoring, administrative, or advising experience in higher education 
  • Experience with staff development, budgeting, strategic planning, and advocacy 
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
  • Confidence with educational and advising technology
  • The capacity to balance multiple priorities with patience, flexibility, and persistence 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree required;
  • Five years of progressive managerial experience in education field required
