Salary Range: $16.69 - $20.87 Hourly

Hiring Range: $16.69 - $18.78 Hourly

Job Summary:

The Natural Areas & Trails (NAT) division, within the City’s Culture, Parks and Recreation Department manages over 2,000 acres of natural areas and the city’s 40-mile trail system including eleven miles of the regional Poudre River Trail. This growing program is seeking a passionate, creative, and motivated professional to join the team as a Seasonal Restoration Technician, to strive toward NAT’s vision of a community connected to nature. 

This position will act under the supervision of the Restoration Specialist and performs natural resource management and maintenance operations to restore and maintain the ecological health of the City’s natural areas. The position also supports the implementation of plans relating to all aspects of effective resource management and enhancement of Natural Area properties. 

The successful applicant will be provided with all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) required for safe pesticide application and will be required to complete training provided by the City of Greeley before applying any chemicals without supervision. 

Typical Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday 

Scheduling may include some early mornings, evenings, weekends & holidays. 

This requisition is continuous and could close at any time.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Must possess a valid driver's license & have a good driving record. 

Preferred

  • Familiar with equipment such as ATV, tractors, mowing equipment, string trimmer, chainsaw, etc.  
  • One to three (1-3) years of introduced and noxious plant management practices. 
  • One to three (1-3) years’ experience applying herbicides. 
  • Proficient in field data collection software (Survey 123, Field Map, GIS, Workforce, etc.).
  • Coursework in Natural Resource Management, Restoration Ecology, Rangeland Management, Botany, Environmental Science, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain a commercial applicators license if applicant does not currently possess one. 
  • Ability to operate pickup trucks, be trained to tow trailers. 
  • Knowledge of native and noxious plant species in Colorado. 
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
  • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to effectively control invasive weed species through using chemical, mechanical, cultural, and biological controls. 
  • Assists in proper loading and mixing of chemicals into equipment. 
  • Applies chemicals in an accurate and safe manner using ATV, truck mounted boom, backpack, and hand sprayers. 
  • Maintains and utilizes City-provided PPE when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. 
  • Assists in seeding and planting projects including site and soil prep. 
  • Completes vegetation mapping, surveys, and site assessments using field data collection software and following NAT Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • Provides support to other staff during peak times and assists with larger projects (volunteer/service projects and capital improvement projects). 
  • Occasionally performs routine natural area maintenance duties including emptying trash containers, picking up litter, cleaning restrooms, repairing vandalism and light construction projects, acts as a member of the snow removal team. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

  • Work outside in rough and uneven terrain with exposure to ALL weather elements- Sun, Heat, Cold, Wind, Hail. 
  • Exposure to noise, dirt, dust, chemicals, plant allergens and thorns, insects. 
  • Exposure to trash, dog feces, living and deceased wildlife, stagnant water.
  • Limited access to on-grid power, drinking water, restroom, cell reception, and lunches and breaks may be out in the field away from facilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual labor, prolonged standing, kneeling, bending & walking, climbing ladders & stairs.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds on a frequent basis, traveling across uneven ground.
  • Ability to lift arms above shoulder level to manipulate and/or move objects.
  • Ability to lift to 65 pounds infrequently.
  • Manual dexterity enough to operate hand & power tools.
  • Vision enough to perform above functions, drive, read printed instructions.
  • Hearing enough to take note of cautionary alarms/alerts and/or warning callouts.
