Brief Description of Position:
The Resource Specialist provides specialized instruction and services to students with exceptional needs. The pupils enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program are assigned to a regular teacher for the majority of their school day and receive direct Resource Specialist instruction or services, either individually or in small groups, as specified in their Individualized Education Programs. The Resource Specialist shall demonstrate the skills, knowledge and performance competencies adopted by the Commission on Teacher Preparation and Licensing, and the State Board.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Provide instruction to students with valid Invidualized Education Programs in the following areas:
a. Reading: Word and alphabet recognition; word-attack skills, phonics skills and reading comprehension
b. Math: Numerical recognition of fractions, decimal and arithmetic calculation; computation and arithmetic reasoning skills-concepts; processing word problems and application skills; time, money, banking and measurement.
c. Written Expression: Punctuation, capitalization, spelling, written sentence structure, letters, paragraphs, vocational forms and application
d. Oral Expression: Vocabulary development, directional prepositions body parts, colors, personal data.
e. Listening Comprehension: Following oral directions, auditory memory, auditory sequencing, figure ground associations.
f. Visual Perceptual: Directional and locational concepts, visual sequencing left to right, visual discrimination, visual memory, visual figure ground.
g. Visual Motor: Fine motor skills(handwriting eye-hand coordination); gross motor skills(sensory motor integration)
h. Behavior: On-task/task completion/attitude.
2.Conducts formal and informal assessments in the eight instructional areas (reading, arithmetic, written expression, listening, comprehension, visual perceptual, visual motor and behavior). In conducting assessments, the Resource Specialist must follow the legal guidelines established by State and Federal mandates.
3.Provides Consultation: Conducts parent, teacher and student conferences regarding students with exceptional needs (home visits, when appropriate), and conducts classroom observations, provides inservices to staff and parents, and provides means for adapting materials for regular education students.
4.Coordinates the Student Study Team meetings at the respective school sites (i.e., coordinates all referrals, develops the agenda and maintains the log), as well as coordinates special education services and the schedules of students enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program.
5.Participates in the development, review and revision of Individual Education Programs, as needed.
Other Duties:
1.Maintains daily attendance registers of students enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program.
2.Participates in staff meetings and is reasonably involved in school-sponsored activities.
3.Directs and supervises instructional aide assigned to the Resource Specialist Program.
4.Monitors pupil progress on a regular basis.
5.Maintains professional competence through participation in one or more of the following areas: Advanced education/professional activities or organizations, inservice education or self-selected professional growth activities.
6.Orders appropriate supplies and instructional materials for use with the students assigned to the Resource Specialist Program. And maintains required inventory records.
* Must hold a Valid Credential authorizing service in Special Education: Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Credential preferred or Intern Eligible Credential * Copy of Official Transcripts showing BA/MA Degree(s) *NCLB compliance in the subject area of Multiple Subjects (CSET/MSAT) *Resume Letter of Introduction 3 Letters of Reference ( Must be 18 months current & must be signed by the letter originator to be considered)
*Letters that are not dated within the last 18 months and are not signed will not be considered to meet the minimum 3 letter requirement*
