Summary:
Kapur is seeking an entry-level Public Involvement Specialist based in our Milwaukee office. The position will support, assist, and advise project managers and clients in public involvement outreach and communication. The position may also support other Kapur marketing/communications efforts as needed. This person will establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders, including public officials, property owners, and businesses affected by projects, under the supervision of Kapur project managers and the Communications Department Manager. Typical project activities include coordinating and attending public meetings/open houses and project-specific material development and distribution (brochures, handouts, newsletters, mailers, website content, and other materials).
Responsibilities:
· Research and write content for a variety of communication channels, including websites, social media, talking points, presentations, marketing materials, and media notifications.
· Coordinate and participate in public meetings and community events with various neighborhood groups or other stakeholders as assigned. Availability to work some nights, as needed.
· Positively represent the project team, client, and firm at project specific events such as public meetings and public hearings and one-on-one meetings with the affected public.
· Guide responses to public inquiries and escalated stakeholder issues.
· Implement strategic social media outreach plans, including researching, writing, and vetting various posts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
· Attend virtual or in-person external project, agency, and community meetings to provide public involvement updates and identify public involvement issues.
· Track and maintain records and reports pertaining to public involvement meetings, public hearings, and outreach events.
· Organize library of project information.
· Interact clearly and concisely with diverse audiences.
Requirements and Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in communications/public relations, journalism, marketing, or political science preferred.
· 1-3 years of communication experience.
· Self-motivated people person with a strong work ethic, thirst for knowledge, skill advancement, professional demeanor, and a team first mentality.
· Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects, execute efficiently, and respect deadlines in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and demanding environment.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Superior organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to understand and translate complex, technical information to easy-to-understand content for public consumption.
· Ability to represent projects, clients, and the firm to the public.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
