PROGRAM COORDINATOR
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing daily programming in Youth Development and Aquatics at the branch. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
PAY: $16.51-$18
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Managing the daily scheduling of staff, including filling in for the Youth Development staff or Aquatics staff as necessary.
- Keeping appropriate records for areas including but not limited to enrollment and attendance.
- Supervising Youth Development and Aquatics staff (lifeguards, swim lesson and water exercise instructors) as needed in conjunction with the Program Director.
- Assisting branch leaders with a variety of enrichment programs in designated programming areas.
- Serving as a conduit for effective communications between the Director staff and the front-line staff working in designated programming areas, ensuring that all parties are kept informed of situations and decisions that affect the operations of the department.
- Ensuring that adequate supplies are on hand for a successful programs such as afterschool, camp, swim lessons, and water exercise.
- In the absence of an on-site Director, maintaining primary responsibility for program and participant supervision during off-site activities.
- Providing daily front-line oversight of program activities, monitoring staff and delivering immediate feedback regarding staff and participant behavior as needed.
- Aquatic program responsibilities may include lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage employees in Youth Development and Aquatics Area. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Associate's degree (A. A.); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, members, and the general public. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability effectively use the Microsoft Office Suite of software. Ability to bring a boisterous group under control and maintain appropriate control for effective communication and management of group activities.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
- CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire.
- YMCA or Red Cross (if they are accepting either now - not sure of that status) Lifeguard and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification is required for this incumbent position, but can be provided after hire for the best candidate.
