Student Business Services operates as the University cashier and is responsible for assessing tuition and managing student bills, collecting payment, applying financial aid payments, and issuing refunds.
ResponsibilitiesThe Controller’s Office offers career ladders for many of our positions which allow tenured employees promotional opportunities within their job. The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of Student Financial Specialist, Waiver Coordinator level I through IV, based on education and experience.
This position serves as the Waiver Coordinator, responsible for the review and application of over $37 million in annual state and locally mandated tuition and fee waivers and related programs, which include the FSU Employee and Employee Dependent Scholarships, State Employee Waiver, 50% and 100% Out of State Recruitment Waivers, International Study Abroad Waiver, Homeless Student Waiver, Department of Children and Families Adoption Waiver, Line of Duty Waivers, Select STEM Waiver, Free Seat Waiver, and Grandparent Waiver programs among others as authorized by the Florida Legislature.
This position exercises considerable decision making in the application of waivers based on law and policy and manages related reporting to demonstrate university compliance.
The Waiver Coordinator serves as the university point of contact for customer and departmental issues related to waivers and as a member of the cashiering team, supports other cashiering functions, like student payments, departmental deposits, and greeting office visitors and helps to train and coach part-time OPS staff.
Like all members of the Student Business Services team, the Waiver Coordinator is responsible for assisting students, prospective students, and their families with campus finances in person, in writing, and by phone.
QualificationsA Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Preferred Qualifications- Proficient computer skills.
- Proficient customer service skills and ability to provide subject matter expertise and counsel others.
- Proficient ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to gather, interpret report and/or edit information.
- Experience applying law and policy or independent judgement of complex rules as a substantial portion of job responsibility.
- Experience supervising, training, or supporting other staff.
