ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs difficult professional work planning, organizing, and supervising a variety of special recreation programs and activities through essential functions such as: plans and organizes programs to include special events and athletics; registers participants; prepares fields and facilities for activities; maintains records and files; supervises games and special events while in progress to ensure staffing coverage and policies and procedures are followed and safety measures are being enforced; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director. Supervision is exercised over subordinate full-time and seasonal staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, and equipment required for a variety of recreational activities
- Ability to instruct participants
- General knowledge of first aid practices and techniques
- Ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by department executive
- Ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality
- Thorough knowledge of the organization and functions of the department and of general administrative policies and practices
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, social agencies and the general public
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in programs and special events or marketing OR
- Associate degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in programs and special events or marketing OR
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
