About The Role
Ethos is seeking a highly motivated Payroll Specialist with public company and/or start-up experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing to support Ethos as we continue on our mission to protect the next million families with life insurance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Payroll Manager with multi-state, bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now, as well as monthly international payroll processing (Singapore and India)
- Process time cards for non-exempt employee population
- Calculate prorated and retroactive wages
- Reconcile employee change reports
- Manage Time Off request approvals and reporting
- Process new hire, termination, and Leave of Absence transactions
- Provide customer service to employee and stakeholder inquiries through the shared Payroll mailbox
- Track equity for new hires and refresh grants
- Prepare off-cycle payments
- Track notices from tax agencies using ADP Smart Compliance software
- Regularly communicate with the People team to ensure an efficient workflow of information
- Prepare General Ledger journal entries
- Complete miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- The successful candidate will be a committed and dedicated team player with excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and a strong attention to detail
- Proven experience as Payroll Specialist or payroll manager
- The ability to communicate well with the organization's mostly remote staff
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
- Experience with multi-state payroll preferred
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
- Strong analytical, verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

The US national base salary range for this full-time position is $64,000 - $108,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
