Educational and Experience Requirement:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, MIS (Management Information Systems) or a related field. Three years of experience in payroll, timekeeping, reconciliation and preparation, benefits and deductions or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Must be a current Sam Houston State University employee in order to be considered for this position.
Performs complex administrative program work for the Payroll Department . Reviews and enters detailed calculations and data entry within the Payroll System.
Primary Responsibilities:Provides guidance and assistance to university employees with regard to benefits and deductions. Prepares and reviews reports on the production of the payroll. Performs calculations and data entry for all payroll deductions (including insurance, retirement, misc. deductions, etc.). Reconciliates Employee Retirement System (ERS) billing (active/retiree) and prepares any adjustments needed. Audits adjustments of pay, calculations of state service, and any other adjustments prepared by other team members in the payroll office. Prepares and oversees the preparation of training and operational manuals. Assists leadership with planning, coordinating and payroll production. Confers with staff on problems and helps implement solutions. Recommends program procedures, policies, rules and regulations. Develops and recommends process efficiencies. Interprets policies, rules and regulations and ensures they are followed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:Knowledge of, or the ability to learn University policies and procedures. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies.
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
