The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department, Parks Division, is seeking Park Maintenance Aidesto help with day to day maintenance as well as trash and graffiti abatement. These are temporary positions that aren't expected to last more than 960 hours.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Clean up trash and debris at City parks
- Empty trash/recycling containers
- Remove graffiti
- Other routine maintenance tasks
- Notify the supervisor of any maintenance issues
- Provide excellent customer service to the City's residents

PLEASE NOTE: Extra-Help positions are not expected to last more than 960 hours. Under the terms of the City's benefits plan and policies, this position is not eligible for benefits due to the short duration of employment. In this position, employment with the City of Oxnard is at will, and those selected for temporary placement retain the option, as does the City of Oxnard, to end employment at any time, with or without notice and with or without cause.
Essential Functions
(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)
Performs semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance and operations work in support of City departments or maintenance function; selects proper maintenance tools, supplies and equipment for assignment; performs work following established safety policies and procedures.
Operates and maintains assigned equipment, tools and supplies; performs basic inspections to ensure safe operating conditions; cleans and performs preventative maintenance; and monitors need for replacement or advanced repair/maintenance work.
Plans, monitors and reviews inventory and supply needs; places orders or requests based on requirements.
Maintains activity logs, records, work orders and related reports.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
Positions assigned to custodian services may be responsible for:
- Performing the full array of custodial duties;
- Serving as lead over other custodians and assisting in training new custodial staff.
Positions assigned to grounds maintenance may be responsible for:
- Keeping grounds at city owned facilities and parks including irrigation maintenance;
- Removing litter;
- Performing weed abatement;
- Inspecting grounds;
- Applying chemicals and pesticides;
- Purchasing supplies;
Minimum Qualifications
The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for the entry into the classification:
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years of maintenance experience related to assignment
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
Depending on assignment, some positions may require:
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing
