The Position
Effective January 1, 2024, the hourly salary range for this position will be $22.05 - $26.80.
These are part-time position(s) which will not exceed a maximum of 990 hours per City fiscal year (July through June).
The Maintenance Aide classification is an entry-level position which will perform a variety of routine tasks such as cleaning, maintenance, and repair of public buildings and related City facilities; repair of streets, sewers and equipment; landscape maintenance in parks; event set-up and take down; and other related work as required.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Exercises no supervision. Receives general supervision from the assigned supervisor or higher-level staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.
- Performs a variety of manual custodial and building maintenance tasks related to the cleaning and care of public buildings and related facilities; opens and closes parks, gates and restrooms;
- Provides set up and removal of equipment for meetings and special events;
- Assists in the repair of equipment in parks, buildings and facilities; services motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment with gas, oil and diesel fuels;
- Prepares, paints surfaces and paints new installations and repair jobs; removes graffiti from City buildings and facilities;
- Rakes and picks-up leaves; assists with planting, trimming and minor pruning in parks and other City facilities;
- Operates a variety of power equipment and tools in connection with work projects; services equipment;
- Operates and/or drives a truck, van or other motor vehicle, including towing trailers; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to:
Establish and maintain a positive customer service attitude and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High school diploma or certified equivalent (GED).
Licenses/certifications/other requirements:Must be willing to work such hours as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements; travel to attend meetings, seminars and conferences. Classification requires the possession and continued maintenance of a valid class "C" California driver's license for operating a motor vehicle.
