Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to support our client in the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). STAR's mission is to transfer satellite observations of the land, atmosphere, ocean, and climate from scientific research and development into routine operations, and to offer state-of-the-art data, products, and services to decision-makers.
This position is at the STAR headquarters offices in College Park, MD, and engages with various support functions. This position is approved for a hybrid work schedule of onsite and telework.
Position Summary:
In this role, you will coordinate NESDIS-related policies and procedures between the STAR budget director and the director of one of the STAR branches. You will assist our client in a variety of ways, including managing property, arranging travel, and administering a variety of task related to budget and other front office requirements. You will help liaise between STAR branches to ensure that these and other activities are being managed and executed consistently. You will be a team player and function well working across multiple areas and on a variety of tasks.
As a travel arranger, you will support client travel, including among other things validating travel authorizations and expenses, ensuring vouchers are submitted, and reviewing receipts and travel documentation for required information and accuracy.
As an admin assistant, you will prepare various administrative documents for signature, contact facilities for maintenance requests and telephone work orders, and assist with other clerical duties as needed.
As a property support specialist, you will help to identify and track government equipment.
Overall, the candidate will use their best attention-to-detail skills to gather information, track action items, report on the execution status of government activities, and support travel and property management. The ideal candidate will have some experience working in a federal bureaucracy, especially as a travel arranger and adaptable and flexible Administrative Assistant. Government support roles can sometimes be fluid as duties evolve, and we are looking for a person who can adapt to changing duties and apply project-tracking skills to various needs.
Good communication skills are key to success in this role. Attention to detail, good time management, and competency with the Microsoft product suite especially Excel spreadsheets. Smartsheet experience is highly desirable. Understanding government travel and/or property management processes is a significant plus. Experience developing and managing project and action trackers.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or other fields relevant to or synthesizing skills engaged with business operations, budget analysis, project management, and federal science bureaucracies. Experience may be counted in place of the extent of education.
- Four or more years related/relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to meet deadlines in a highly dynamic environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of scientists, technicians, and managers
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills required
