Job description

Position
Marketing and Communications Strategist
About The Connecticut Project
The Connecticut Project (TCP) is a social change organization that leverages strategies and tools to align around, invest in, and advocate for real-world outcomes and systems change for people who are lower-income or asset-limited. We work for a just, thriving, and optimistic Connecticut where race, gender, income, geography, and other circumstances no longer predetermine opportunity.
To achieve positive social and economic mobility in the state, we focus on increasing access to safe and affordable housing; ensuring every child has access to an affordable and high-quality early childhood education; increasing economic opportunity by improving access to financial safety net programs, well-paying, stable jobs, and wealth-building supports; and that our state’s governance and resources are responsive to and supportive of the needs of low-income and asset limited people. Additionally, we also support intersectional issues facing low-income and asset limited households, including healthcare access, the criminal legal system, and the specific needs of immigrants.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Strategist is responsible for the implementation of TCP’s digital Marketing and Communications plans on specific priority issue areas. The strategist is responsible for contributing to the organization’s marketing success and to engagement with TCP’s target audiences across Connecticut by leveraging a mix of omnichannel marketing techniques, including digital and paid media to inspire education, engagement, and activation with TCP’s priority campaigns and initiatives. The Marketing and Communications Strategist will enhance TCP’s overall brand visibility and TCP’s priority issue areas and campaigns by conceiving and executing digital, direct mail, text message, and phone Marketing and activation campaigns and content, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications unit, Advocacy and External Affairs team, and other internal colleagues, external partners, and vendors as appropriate. Strategists will work closely with their field team colleagues to ensure TCP communications strategies are people-centered and rooted in the interests and perspectives of lower-income and asset-limited people.
The Marketing and Communications Strategist will work under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications and in close collaboration with the Advocacy and External Affairs team, as well as TCP staff, coalition partners, vendors, and community members.
Core Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of, and run, innovative omnichannel communications and marketing campaigns that attract TCP’s target audiences, speak to the challenges that low-income and asset-limited households face, and inspire a shared vision and identity for a multiracial, multi- generational, and cross-ideological movement for families struggling to survive and thrive in Connecticut.
  • Contribute to the development of, and execute, email campaigns, social media content, website content, and text message and phone campaigns to engage target audiences and yield measurable leads and action. Key digital platforms include HubSpot, website, email, Slack, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with the potential for additional social media platforms as-needed.
  • Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications in developing content calendars and Communications plans for overarching TCP Marketing and Communications and for issue-specific campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development of, and execute, direct mail, paid search advertising, display banner ads, social media ads, broadcast ads, and other digital and print-based paid media campaigns.
  • Execute digital Marketing and strategic communications lead generation strategies for their issue areas to convert leads into organizational supporters who will take action on TCP priorities.
  • Conceive of, create visual and written content for, and execute ongoing social media, website, and email content to educate, engage, and activate strategic audiences.
  • Draft persuasive, engaging, public-facing digital materials, optimized for SEO and algorithmic / platform requirements, including social media graphics, social media copy, emails, text messages, email action alerts, and website action centers.
