Essential Duties
1. Manages relationships with external media sources. Pursues media coverage creatively and aggressively. Responds to inquiries from national and international news media, student media, the University community and the general public. 2. Enhances the overall quality of media relations for key stakeholders by preparing them for media interviews. Manages relationships with key campus stakeholders with a high degree of professionalism, judgment and understanding of stakeholder goals. 3. Creates compelling story ideas and narratives; produces content for both external and internal channels; writes copy and social media posts and manages content. 4. Plans social media strategies for key University Communications and programs. Monitors University social media assets for negative comments or misinformation. 5. Supports short- and long-term communication planning with insights into audiences, channels and culture; coordinates with other communications professionals to achieve institutional goals; leads the communications process within developed standards and protocols. 6. Supports effective response strategies, often in crisis situations requiring 24/7 attention and intense media/public scrutiny, and articulates the University's position via personal interviews or written responses. 7. Produces multimedia content and manages the work of graphic and web designers, student interns, printers, video producers and photographers. 8. Manages communication plans for all stakeholders by understanding the significance of campus initiatives and/or academic work; creates compelling stories and messages to translate the significance through language that is clear and accessible for public awareness. 9. Develops and maintains regular contact with media representatives in multiple disciplines. 10. Maintains the Yale brand and graphic identity standards; supports and maintains standard operating procedures; contributes to digital asset management. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field and eight years of experience in public relations, journalism, television, corporate communications or agency work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience in developing communications for a range of media and working with creative professionals in design, photography or video.

Position Focus:
Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking a Chief Communications and Marketing Officer to join a dynamic and growing school. YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus, is conveniently located near major highways. As a member of the Dean's Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer leads all internal and external communications for Yale School of Nursing (YSN). The portfolio includes all branding, marketing, media relations, government relations, advertising/promotion, digital presence, and event management for the school. The incumbent works closely with Yale's Office of Public Affairs and Communications (OPAC) to align YSN's communications strategy with that of Yale. This position plays a critical leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluation of strategic communication plans that keep the school's internal and external constituencies informed about the impact of YSN's work, as well as enhance the overall image, reputation and visibility domestically and globally. They will also be responsible for managing a team of communications, marketing and event professions (including freelance workers) to support the overall strategic goals of the school.
Collaborate with YSN stakeholder (internal and external) to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategic plan, including marketing, brand development, and public affairs. Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Enrollment Management to develop and implement a recruiting communication strategy and tactical implementation. Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Affairs to develop and implement a fundraising communication strategy and tactical implementation. Oversee the Events Management staff and ensure that YSN events support the school's strategic priorities and maintain the YSN brand. Work with various stakeholders including the Yale Office of Public Affairs and Communications on media relations and outreach, especially regarding the quality and impact of the school's research and major initiatives/developments; proactively market the school's scientific expertise to leading journalists and media outlets with a goal of increasing the number of YSN-related stories in local, state, national and international media. Organize the development of press releases and the handling of media inquiries. Produce internal and external Communications and Marketing materials based on data-driven analysis and measurable expected outcomes. Working with OPAC, manage messages and outreach in times of crisis. Draft timely responses on behalf of the dean. Develop and implement YSN communications policies, procedures including branding guides; refine communication workflows to ensure effective and efficient outcomes; work to ensure that the YSN brand is utilized by the YSN community. Lead the redesign and development of the YSN website and oversee ongoing updates and improvements. Lead executive communications on behalf of the dean and the dean's Senior Leadership Team; produce talking points and presentations when needed. Oversee financial and human resources for the Office; develop plans for the strategic use of school funds for ensuring impact, including paid marketing, marketing collateral, print, and digital assets.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field and ten years of experience. Experience overseeing communications in a large, decentralized University, particularly in the field of nursing and/or health sciences. Website design and development experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated ability in development and execution of strategic and analytic marketing and communications plans, including branding, public relations, government relations and social media.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Record of superior writing and editing skills for marketing and philanthropic purposes, as well as a demonstrated ability to write in a style and voice suitable for a variety of audiences, including donors, legislators, faculty, current and prospective students, and the general community.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, data-driven, and high degree of attention to detail; ability to manage multiple competing priorities concurrently.
