The Role
As Manufacturing Optimization Materials lead you will manage a team that is responsible to manage Manufacturing Optimization projects including collaborating with a cross functional teams across Manufacturing Engineering, Plant Production, Quality and Maintenance Teams to design, build and Commission state of the art Automation Projects in our Propulsion and vehicle Assembly Plants. Your team will be responsible as part of a group of engineers and technical support personnel engaged in determining and specifying how to maximize efficiencies while reducing MCPU, and implementing material automation projects across Multiple plants. You will also be responsible for all aspects of the development and evaluation of your GM employee team, including goal setting, mentoring, workplace of choice strategies, driving an inclusive environment and safety initiatives. Additionally, you will lead all hiring initiatives for your team. The work your team will perform involves a considerable amount of creativity and perception and a high level of independent discernment in making decisions. This includes a constant focus on developing and improving workflows to increase the productivity of the GM team members who operate and maintain the equipment you procure and productionize. Your work team will also be responsible to develop the plan for long term sustainment of the equipment in the plants you support. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Provide technical and leadership direction to a team of Execution Engineers and/or Supervisors who have responsibility for implementing Materials automation solutions and processes including:
- Setting objectives, managing results, and evaluating/coaching individual performance
- Following standardized processes for program implementation
- Definition of routes and identifying opportunities for efficiency
- Installation of equipment into the plant
- Qualification of equipment and successful launch
- Completion of Launch Deliverables
- Drive a culture of collaboration, respect, and inclusion making the team a workplace of choice
- Track and report program status and Launch Deliverables
- Build effective teams and monitor progress by developing and implementing initiatives to increase employee engagement.
- Travel required, including Mexico, Canada and across US.
- Lead the local Manufacturing Optimization team, strong collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineer and Mfg Operations teams (plant) to maximizing efficiency to reduce MCPU.
- Prioritize optimization requests by Engineering and Plant Engineering Director for the ME center.
- Lead coordination of automation projects including all Plant integration and pull ahead activities with Continuous Improvement leads, Plant ME Directors and Local Plant Launch Teams
- Support the Launch Managers and Program Managers to ensure a proper balance of cost and complexity to meet operating targets and proliferation.
- Lead HRM activities for program staffing requirements to meet regional / global needs as identified.
- Stay abreast of new technology and work to define reasonable validation plans for production
- Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources
- (G-Risks, RYG buyoffs, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing)
- Effectively communicate all pertinent information regarding goals, project timelines, or objectives to team members and leadership
- Review initiatives and open issues, rapid escalation of issues and/or roadblocks
- Develop the plants operational strategy for a fully optimized operation with the leadership
- Coach and mentor, the technical development behavioral growth of team.
- Performance management responsibilities for reporting engineers.
Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing Location – Warren and/or plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Manufacturing Operations / Mfg Engineering in the materials/logistic area
- Experience leading a technical team
- Proven desire and ability to lead and coach performance of direct reports
- Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
- Demonstrates excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
- Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
- Demonstrated program execution experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with highest level of autonomy and accountability for results
- Demonstrated people leader with potential to grow to the executive level
- High level of analytical ability & problem solving where problems are unusual and difficult
- High level of problem solving and issue resolution aptitude
- Proven team builder and Execution leader
