Major Responsibilities:
  • MANAGES AND DIRECTS THE OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF THE ACMC EMS SYSTEM WHICH PROVIDES PREHOSPITAL EMERGENCY CARE TWENTY-FOUR (24) HOURS A DAY, 365 DAYS EACH YEAR TO RESIDENTS OF TWENTY (20) COMMUNITIES
    • Monitors compliance of the ACMC EMS System policies and procedures, which includes verification of the appropriate stocking of equipment and medications on the forty (40) plus ACMC EMS System ambulances.
    • Ensure that telemetry and MERCI radio equipment is functional and that the respondents are qualified personnel. - Provide training courses for Emergency Department registered nurses
    • Monitors the prehospital performance of 500+ EMT-Basics and 300+ EMT-Paramedics via review of prehospital patient care reports.
    • Provides continuing education for System personnel and monitors performance of EMT-Paramedics.
    • Recommends EMT-Paramedics for relicensure every four years after verification of completion of the required 100 hours of continuing education.
    • Prepares and administers departmental and capital budget expenditures.
    • Interviews, hires, counsels and/or terminates the employment of associates of the Center for Prehospital Care.
    • Assists with coordination of area-wide disaster drills.
    • Serves as Chair of the ACMC Emergency Management Committee and coordinates the prehospital and hospital activities that support the required Accrediting Organization semiannual disaster drills.
    • Coordinates and oversees Emergency Management education for ACMC associates. Maintains an ongoing relationship with local Fire Department Chiefs. Maintains relationship with the internal clinical areas where ACMC EMS System students participate in clinical rotations. Serve as expert resource on matters of ACMC diversion/bypass protocols.

  • ADMINISTERS AND COORDINATES THE LARGEST EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ACADEMY IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS INCLUDING COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION COORDINATES AND OVERSEES THE ACMC AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION DESIGNATED TRAINING CENTER.
    • Markets the ACMC EMS Academy to the metropolitan Chicago area via brochures, web page, newspaper ads and the recommendation of program graduates.
    • Provides a selection process to ensure that the most qualified candidates are admitted to the EMS Academy Programs.
    • Monitors the performance of the Course Coordinators, guest lecturers and evaluators who are responsible for the implementation of the EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, Prehospital Trauma Life Support Course, Trauma Nurse Core Course, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, and other course offerings.
    • Monitors monthly Community Basic Life Support and First Aid Classes.
    • Retains program accreditation through Moraine Valley Community College and the Illinois Community College Board.
    • Promotes department participation in Community Health Fairs.
    • Interviews, hires, counsels and/or terminates the employment of associates of the ACMC American Heart Association (AHA) designated Training Center and the Center for Prehospital Care.
    • Oversees the requisition and distribution of books, supplies and recognition cards of ACMC AHA designated Training Center sponsored courses.
    • Maintains all AHA instructor records for Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Life support in accordance with standards outlined by the AHA. (This involves in excess of 400 individual files that must be maintained.)
    • Tabulates and submits ACMC AHA TC course statistics in accordance with AHA guidelines and maintain AHA TC course evaluations.
  • REPRESENTS THE ACMC EMSS WITH GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AND INTERPRETS THE ILLINOIS EMS ACT AND ITS AMENDMENTS TO ENSURE ACMC COMPLIANCE.
    • Develops policy and procedure for the day-to-day operation of the ACMC EMSS.
    • Upon receipt of recently promulgated amendments to the Illinois EMS Act, revises or develops System policy to bring ACMC EMSS into compliance.
    • Attends the quarterly meetings of Governor's Advisory Council where proposed bills or recently promulgated laws amending the Illinois EMS Act are presented.
    • Provides written and/or oral comments to sponsoring legislators outlining support for an amendment or a rebuttal as to why an amendment may not represent the best interests in the provision Emergency Medical Services.

  • ADMINISTERS ACMC'S AMBULANCE TRANSPORT CONTRACT WITH SERVICE PROVIDER.
    • Develops, prepares and distributes the "Request for Proposal" for ambulance service contract as needed.
    • Coordinates and facilitates the provider presentations during contract proposals.
    • Acts as liaison between ACMC department ambulance service contract users and the ambulance provider.
    • Monitors and resolves any issues surrounding internal customers and the ambulance provider.

  • DEMONSTRATES A COMMITMENT TO THE PURSUIT OF EDUCATION, MONITORS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT, AND COLLECTS EMS FIELD DATA.
    • Oversees associate research projects.
    • Completes required contact hours based on FTE status within time frame.
    • Performs ambulance inspections and participate in ambulance ride time.
    • Facilitates CQI sessions at the conclusion of EMT-B and EMT-P courses.
    • Submits data as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
    • Attends educational conferences/seminars to maintain and enhance knowledge of trends in EMS, Emergency Preparedness, and the American Heart Association Programs.

    • Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.

Licensure and Certification:
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse Professional Licensure
  • BLS Instructor

Education and Experience:
  • 5 years previous experience as a Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department Professional Nurse
  • 3-5 years previous experience as an EMS Coordinator
  • 3-5 years documentation of previous experience in Emergency Preparedness
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years management experience

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret EMS law and develop policy.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to ascend and descend an ambulance to perform ambulance inspections.
  • Ability to assume Administrative Call on a regular basis - 7 days a week/24 hours daily.
  • Necessary travel throughout metropolitan Chicago and the Springfield areas.
