The Behavior Consultant is responsible for providing positive reinforcement, force free behavior modification and consulting through virtual and in-person private instruction for Every Dog’s clients. In addition to training time, there will be time spent traveling to client locations, as well as time spent on client notes, follow ups, and communications. Goals include retaining clients by supporting them in the creation and implementation of training plans that address their needs, and adjusting and making recommendations as client’s progress, and assisting in tracking progress during the implementation process. The Behavior Consultant is expected to go the extra mile to break down barriers for our clients to ensure they receive the services they require, and supporting the mission, vision and values of Every Dog in day-to-day interactions.
We are looking for an experienced professional Behavior Consultant with at least 200 hours or 2 years of working Dog Behavior cases with clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively train 10-15 hours per week (part time) or 20 hours per week (full time) including virtual and in-person behavior training
- Ensure smooth handoff and positive customer experience when transitioning clients from behavior consultation to follow up training.
- Follow up with clients after each lesson with notes and information through email communications.
- Provide science-based, rewards-based information and behavior modification.
- Work collaboratively with other trainers, veterinarians, and veterinary behaviorists as needed.
- Manage your own schedule of bookings in the Busy Paws software, ensure clients are booked and paid prior to all sessions.
- Maintain appropriate safety precautions at all times.
- Maintain open communication with dog owners about their dog’s progress through email communications.
- Maintain notes on details of training progress for each client.
- Maintain expert level knowledge of all Every Dog classes, services, pricing, promotions, service providers, client policies and procedures.
- Manage client communications including phone calls/voicemails, emails and in person communications.
- Attend events as necessary.
- Actively seek ways to include, including making training and activities welcoming for folks with disabilities, neurodivergence, or from different cultures.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working with reactivity, aggression, fear and resource guarding behaviors in dogs required. At least 200 hours or 2 years of Professional Dog training and behavior consulting experience with clients.
- Must LOVE working with people and can meet them where they are. This includes strong emphasis on inclusively and accessibility, and a dedication to non-judgement.
- Ability to take constructive feedback and learn/grow as a trainer.
- Certification as a trainer, and desire to seek further education and certification. CBCC-KA or CDBC or similar preferred.
- Ability to work independently, and attend sessions and communicate with clients on time with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively in-person, virtually and in writing.
- Experience with rewards-based, positive reinforcement training methods and knowledge of Applied Animal Behavior and Learning Theory.
- Reliable transportation to be provided by employee (gas and tolls are responsibility of the employee).
- Maintain 10-15 hours of yearly continuing education.
- Working knowledge of personal computer and office equipment use, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage a high volume of interaction and tasks with unscheduled interruptions while maintaining quality of both service and deliverables.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other trainers or interest groups.
- Ability to articulate and promote the nonprofit’s offerings and vision, mission, and values.
- Ability to use appropriate judgment in escalating client or staff concerns to supervisor(s)
OTHER INFORMATION
- Must be available to work weekend days and evenings.

PAY AND BENEFITS
This position is paid at $28-31/hour depending on certification and experience level. This position is eligible for either part time or full time W2.
