The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) seeks applications from qualified candidates, with a passion for teaching, for a full-time non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Mathematics beginning in Fall 2024. Area of specialization is open, but the ability to teach introductory college mathematics courses is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach Dual Credit/Early College High School students enrolled in those courses. Excellence in teaching and ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues on improving success rates in entry-level mathematics courses is expected. Contribution to improving student success in entry-level mathematics courses is a high priority for the institution. The base teaching load at A&M-SA for lecturers is 5/5; reassigned time for service is possible. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed. Service to the department, college, university, and the community is dependent on the teaching load. This is a position that requires teaching in person on campus, though a few courses may be taught online.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. All concentration areas will be considered.

  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.

  • University teaching experience commensurate with the rank of Lecturer.

  • Availability to teach in-person classes

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience teaching Dual Credit/Early College High School courses and/or experience teaching at a high school

  • Evidence of potential for improving student success in entry-level mathematics courses.

  • Excellent teaching and communication skills.

  • Potential for collaboration with faculty on projects geared toward students’ academic success.

In a letter of interest which explains your teaching experience, please also speak to the following topics:

  • Engagement with teaching Mathematics.

  • Approaches to teaching students from all backgrounds, including first-generation college students and Dual Credit / Early College High School students

  • Experience with improving student success in entry-level Mathematics courses.

  • Evidence of excellence in mathematics teaching at the university level, commensurate with the rank of Lecturer.

The Department provides a rich educational experience for students interested in computing, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor’s degree programs in these disciplines and also support courses in physics for STEM majors. We also offer Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses with small class sizes, and state-of-the-art technology, in high-tech classrooms. We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty’s mentorship.

The letter of recommendation should be written on official letterhead, be less than one year old, and must bear the writer's actual signature. If selected, finalists must pass a pre-employment background investigation to be appointed to the position.

Official transcripts of the candidate selected for the position must be on file with the Office of the Provost, and sent directly from each degree-granting institution to Texas A&M University-San Antonio (1) to the address listed below or (2) sent electronically to Mirley.Balasubramanya@tamusa.edu.
