As the Junior Software Engineer, you are responsible for handling specialized tasks and projects outlined by the Director of IT. These tasks and projects range from basic IT problem solving and hardware/software installation, to more advance and complex software development and maintenance including configuration.
The position requires an individual who is able to work both individually and in a team setting to accomplish established goals and tasks as well as troubleshooting unforeseen IT related issues and complications. The ideal person is someone who is self-motivated, able to take on projects with minimal assistance, independent and goal oriented who can maximize time efficiency.
General Requirements
- Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
- A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field is preferred but an equivalent certification in IT or professional experience (3 year minimum) would also be considered.
- Experience in maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations is strongly preferred.
- Experience in trouble shooting and building networks and systems hardware including routers, switches, servers and phone lines is preferred.
- A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented software design.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team member on business upgrades, training, installation and support.
- Must use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Must be able to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Must be able to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
- Must possess the ability to conduct network administration and have strong analytical skills.
- Trouble shooting abilities for diverse electronic components and equipment.
- General understanding of a C-store environment including experience working on POS systems software and hardware.
- Computer Skills: Must be knowledgeable or Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, ADP and SharePoint.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Assist the team in triaging, documenting and executing development practices related to assigned project.
- Plan, document and formally write software code for varying systems and software used by the Company. This includes completing code reviews and unit tests.
- Produce reports and conduct software development that outline findings, explain issues, and recommend changes.
- Respond to IT software questions and provide in-person and remote user support and troubleshoot, resolve or escalate tickets that have been assigned.
- Handle projects and specialist assignments relating to software development and general maintenance.
- Install, upgrade, and maintain Windows Desktop Operating Systems and software installs/upgrades.
- Assist users in resolving routine problems, using new software, and providing advice and guidance as needed.
- Participates in work and Company related training and comply with all Company’s Rules of Conduct, policies and procedures.
- Regular attendance. Qualified absences related to the State and Federal Family Medical Leave Act must be reported to Human Resources.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
