At a Glance! LCC's Instructional Designer will foster a climate of inclusive learning and ongoing skill development as part of the eLearning team. This position consults with faculty to design and continuously improve high quality learning environments based on research-informed adult learning theories and instructional design practices while promoting the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. Additionally, LCC's Instructional Designer will regularly provide relevant, innovative professional development to both faculty and staff to meet the college's evolving needs. We are looking for someone who has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, prides themself in providing high quality customer services and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, and is keen at managing multiple and varying tasks with competing deadlines. The Instructional Designer must have strong technology skills and be highly proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft and Google products, learning management systems, and lecture capture software.
About the Team! The eLearning department at LCC fosters a team-based approach where the Instructional Designer will contribute to the direction of the department, lead projects, think creatively, and solve problems. At LCC, eLearning is part of a Learning Commons model in which eLearning, Tutoring, and Library/Circulation work together to serve our community in a single, collaborative space; as part of this team, our Instructional Designer will also provide outstanding frontline customer service as needed.
The Instructional Designer position is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.This position is hybrid - there's some on campus presence required and the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week if desired. This position is exempt and may be eligible for overtime under FLSA depending on the salary offered upon hire. This position reports to the Dean of Instructional Programs.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote use of eLearning tools and methodologies that incorporate nationally recognized best practices (such as Quality Matters or UDL).
- Offer creative and innovative ideas for teaching and learning technology to promote learning that leads to student success.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure instructional materials across modalities comply with accessibility standards.
- Lead college's efforts to identify, pilot, and implement innovative technologies for higher education.
- Use a wide variety of web-based tools to design and develop courses and support faculty in their design and development.
- Manage and develop online Canvas faculty training.
- Ensure that the College is fulfilling the federal regular and substantive interaction requirement for online classes and ensure NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements) renewal and reporting requirements.
- Design and deliver professional development to LCC employees including but not limited to instructional design, eLearning technology, and pedagogical practices.
- Ability to develop and maintain collegial partnerships with faculty, interpret needs, and produce meaningful instructional materials.
- Be a problem solver and proactively seek solutions to support instruction.
- Consistently evaluate practice and initiate strategies to advance inclusivity and equity-based practices in teaching, learning and professional development.
- Support faculty in mapping and reporting outcomes in Canvas.
- Support and advance the LCC strategic plan.
- Assist the eLearning Help Desk when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree related to Education, Curriculum and Instruction or Instructional Design from an accredited college/university experience OR Instructional Design Certificate OR an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
- Knowledge of designing and teaching courses across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities using innovative teaching and assessment strategies to engage a diverse student body.
- One (1) year of direct faculty support/experience with instructional design, development, and technologies used in a higher education or similar environment.
- One (1) year college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and collaborate in a higher education environment.
- Master's degree related to Education, Curriculum and Instruction or Instructional Design from an accredited college/university experience.
- Three (3) years of direct faculty support/experience with instructional design, development, and technologies used in a higher education or similar environment.
- Three (3) years college teaching experience
- Knowledge of Canvas (LMS)
- Knowledge of current Instructional Design practices such as Quality Matters, UDL and TILT.
- Experience with promoting regular and substantive interaction in the online classroom based on federal and state accreditation standards.

Retirement

Vacation
Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on FTE. The vacation accrual amounts listed below reflect a 12 month, 40 hour per week employee.
