Instructional Designer II - Limited Term
The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.
The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.
The Allen Institute is seeking a Limited TermInstructional Designer II to join their Learning, Experience, and Development (LEaD) team in Seattle, WA.
The Instructional Designer II will be responsible for updating identified learning catalog items to bring them into alignment with our Learning Framework. Leveraging the framework, grounded in evidence-based learning practices, this person will create engaging, effective, and efficient training. The position is a member of the LEaD team and will partner closely with our Environment, Health, and Safety team to update and improve existing training content and strategize training deployments. This position will report to the Manager, Learning Experience and Development.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborate and work with subject matter experts and use content authorizing software to create engaging, effective, and efficient training in alignment with our learning framework and in support of regulatory obligations
  • Provide expertise on design of eLearning modules
  • Work in collaboration with our Environment, Health, and Safety team
  • Work as part of a team to find solutions to address challenges and develop appropriate responses
  • Provide other services as need is determined

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of degree and experience
  • At least one year of experience working with content authoring software such as Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate
  • Familiarity with concepts of adult learning

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, science education, or related fields
  • Certificate in online/e-learning design
  • Two years of experience with Articulate 360
  • A portfolio of recent work created with content authoring software
  • Experience interfacing with learning management software systems
  • Competency with MS Office Suite of software
  • Experience supporting a laboratory research environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and any remote work must be performed in Washington State.

Physical Demands
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment

Additional Comments
  • This is a Limited Term temporary position with an expected duration of 12 to 16 weeks

Annualized Salary Range
$63,040 - $92,500*
*Final salary depends on required education for the role, experience, and level of skills relevant to the role, along with work location, where applicable.
