Job description

Description
YOU ARE an experienced, innovative, and energetic Instructional Designer who is passionate about creating compelling e-learning experiences that help people become more effective in their jobs. You think deeply about how to structure complex content so it can be absorbed and put into action. When you start a project, you bring stellar writing, critical thinking, graphic design, and project management skills to the table, along with insights from the latest research about adult learning. Working independently is not a problem for you, and you’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting on the fly, and collaborating to ensure your product is the best it can be. Are you ready to join our team?

WE ARE a small but mighty learning and development team that creates and delivers a variety of in-person and online training experiences for our fellow employees. As members of Weyerhaeuser’s Talent, Inclusion, Communications and Culture team, we stay plugged into company priorities and strategic goals to ensure our work is having the highest possible impact. Our team is equal parts creativity, precision, flexibility, and drive. We’re looking for a smart, authentic professional who can help us take our learning and development strategy to the next level. Are you that person?

The successful candidate for this role will be primarily responsible for creating and delivering technical e-learning content for our core businesses. You will build relationships with internal leaders and subject matter experts to create engaging and effective online training modules on various topics focused on helping employees be more effective in their operating roles. You must be an expert at creating online training modules on your own using common software such as Articulate, Captivate, or Camtasia. For some projects you may also work with our internal multimedia and graphics experts and/or vendors to develop custom e-learning solutions.

This role reports to our Manager, E-Learning Technical and Compliance Training and is a hybrid role based in our beautiful Seattle HQ location (onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

***PLEASE NOTE: Submitting a portfolio is required with your application.***

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with internal business leaders and subject matter experts to understand their technical training needs, complete training assessments, and develop training plans that meet expected goals and objectives.
  • Design and develop engaging and effective training content, including learning objectives, storyboards, scripts, simulations, learning activities, knowledge checks and assessments.
  • Use e-learning authoring and multimedia tools to create the right training option for each business need.
  • Lead projects from start to finish, including assessments, project timelines, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Communicate project status updates to manager consistently and on-time.
  • Work with vendors as needed to create and project manage custom e-learning solutions.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the broader learning and development team to ensure content alignment, and to leverage facilitation and other skill sets as needed for blended curricula.
  • Continuously improve the quality of our e-learning materials and approach through research and experimentation.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience (with 5-7 years preferred) in e-learning instructional design in a business environment
  • Submitting a portfolio is required for consideration
  • Proficient at using common e-learning software such as Articulate, Captivate, or Camtasia
  • Experience creating and editing videos, using video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro)
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, content organization, design, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent project management skills with precise attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate and committed to learning new skills and knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Instructional Design, Learning, Education, or related field preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating augmented reality and/or virtual reality training solutions
  • Experience designing and developing corporate compliance and technical e-learning
  • Demonstrated track record of creating a variety of training solutions (ILT, VILT, hybrid)
  • Strong graphic design skills (proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud apps, e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
