ABOUT US: The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational facilities, programs, events, parks and open spaces. Volkening Heritage Farm sits within Spring Valley’s 135 acres of prairie, woodlands and wetlands, and 3+ miles of walking trails. Restored farm buildings, livestock, and authentically dressed interpreters re-create late 19th century farm life for visitors.
LOCATION: Spring Valley’s Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Rd.
JOB SUMMARY: The Heritage Farm Office Assistant provides support to both program staff as well as patrons visiting the site. Responsibilities include coordinating group field trip scheduling, rental scheduling, processing program payments and registrations, assist with event planning and logistics, answering phones, and maintaining merchandise displays and exhibits. Occasionally would include opening/closing the Museum Shop/Visitor Center.
QUALIFICATIONS: The best applicants will have exemplary organizational skills, customer service and communication skills and genuinely enjoy interacting with the public. Office/clerical and computer experience required, including familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook, and point-of-sale systems. Ability to work independently and willingness to adjust to a changing pace of work.
SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a year-round, part-time position paying $16.00/hour. Normal schedule is 3-4 days a week (including occasional weekends and some holidays). Hours are generally 10am-4pm.The busiest seasons are April 1st to late November. Hours may be reduced during winter months.
