Job Summary:
Reports to: Senior Manager of Philanthropy, Community Roots Housing
Position Summary:
The Grants Manager will manage and execute a strategic fundraising approach to secure institutional awards for the Community Roots Housing Foundation. They will support the Foundation in its long-term goal to transform our fundraising efforts to a community centric model, prioritizing racial equity and social justice in all that we do. The Grants Manager is a full-time employee of Community Roots Housing.
With support and oversight from the Senior Manager of Philanthropy, the Grants Manager will be responsible for developing an acquisition and stewardship strategy for Community Roots Housing's annual grants and will support grant strategy and applications for the Rise Together capital campaign as needed. This position will be responsible for research and prospecting, annual strategic grant planning and projections, grant writing and proposal coordination, funder communications, grant tracking in Salesforce (CRM), grant reporting, and funder acknowledgement. This position works directly with Community Roots Housing program staff to develop strategies and grant applications for funding programs and special projects. In addition, they work closely with the Foundation Executive Director and partner organization staff on capital grant proposals as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute annual grants strategy and calendar with oversight and support from the Senior Manager of Philanthropy.
- Identify, cultivate, and manage stewardship of institutional donors, including local community foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders.
- Coordinate clear internal communication around grant opportunities, reporting and deadlines.
- Lead the proposal drafting process and develop high quality grant proposals and award applications, funder acknowledgements, and reports for timely submission, ensuring input and approval by the Senior Manager of Philanthropy and other appropriate staff.
- Perform in-depth prospect research on foundations, corporations, and government sources through the Instrumentl database and other resources to identify new grant opportunities throughout the year, including capital grant opportunities, and present findings to the Senior Manager of Philanthropy.
- Manage meticulous recording and tracking of grant and individual giving opportunities in Salesforce (CRM) through all stages, with detailed deliverables for each opportunity.
- Prepare regular internal reports on grant activity for review by staff and board.
- Track annual fundraising results around institutional giving through review and analysis of annual budget to actuals.
- Attend quarterly Foundation Board Meetings and prepare materials for presentation, as needed.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice, as well as awareness of the impacts of institutional racism on housing and economic opportunity.
- Minimum of two years of grant writing experience or comparable professional experience.
- Excellence in writing, including framing structure and tone; applied competence translating quantitative facts and data into a cohesive narrative with a heartbeat.
- Proven skills in crafting original content, compelling stories, and persuasive arguments; preferably demonstrated through successful public and private funding proposals.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques and resources; preferably with tools for identifying prospective funding opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to build professional rapport with colleagues and external stakeholders; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Illustrated capability to operate efficiently and gracefully within ambiguity as well as under pressure of deadlines.
- Exhibited competency in project management; highly organized and detail oriented.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated skill in goal setting, planning, coordinating, and organizing/motivating groups of people toward goals.
- Proficiency in general office software, such as MS Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience working in and with communities of color, which are disproportionately represented among our low-income housing residents.
- 3+ years of grants management experience (full spectrum of prospect research, grant tracking, reporting, funder acknowledgment and stewardship).
- Experience developing grant proposal budgets in collaboration with program staff.
- 1+ year of database and/or grant management system experience, with a preference for proficiency in Salesforce.
- Bachelor's degree OR demonstrated equivalent work experience.
- Experience in the affordable housing industry.
- Experience writing complex government grants.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national funding sources.
