Role Summary
The Director of Fund Development develops and implements an annual fundraising program as part of the organization's overall strategic plan, including specific goals for major gifts, annual support, and grants to meet organizational fundraising goals. The Director of Fund Development in coordination with the President & CEO, will manage all aspects of UNI’s development program, including:
Major Gifts
Create and execute strategies to increase unrestricted income, particularly through individual gifts. Secure meetings with major gift donors and prospects and engage them in face-to-face solicitations. Prepare and guide the President/CEO and Board members to build donor relationships. Engagement with donor base local and national. UNI has a $2.2 million annual operating budget, $750K of which is unrestricted.
Annual Giving Program
Work with staff to strengthen and expand fundraising activities that cultivate regular giving, print newsletters, e-newsletters, online giving, holiday appeal, and annual reports.
Grants
Cultivate relationships with foundations and work with program staff to develop grant applications. Research, write and cultivate grant applications. Prepare and submit grant reports. Research, write and apply for grants on the local, state, federal, foundation and corporate level.
Fundraising Events
Advise on the implementation of fundraising events, annual gala event, and smaller events. Provide coordination of events undertaken.
Administration
Ensure timely gift recording and donor acknowledgment in the donor database, including individual giving histories, profiles, interactions, etc. Keep the CEO informed of trends and key donor information. Report to the Board of Directors on development efforts. Serve as liaison with the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Directors
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, public relations, or related fields. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience
Minimum five years of experience in Fund Development. Minimum of three years of proven experience in a senior development position, preferably in a non-profit setting. Experience successfully writing foundation, local, and federal grants.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Knowledge of the Kansas City metropolitan philanthropic and business community
· Outstanding ability to build relationships with a diverse group of people and successfully meet personally with donors and prospective donors.
· Have our own book of business
· Demonstrated leadership skills
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Strong grant writing skills
· Experience with donor management software
· Good planning, organizing, execution, evaluation, and follow up skills
· Experience planning successful donor campaigns and events
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite
Must successfully pass credit, criminal and reference background check.
Compensation
$75,000 - $100,000
