Positions Supervised: Career Strategist I; Career Strategist II: Strategist, Internships and Experiential Learning
Job Summary
The director, Career Development provides leadership and strategic direction for the Career Development department, which offers comprehensive career planning services to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni. This position leads the Career Development department, including program development and implementation, staff development, budget management, and continuous improvement - all based on assessment data and the mission of the Center for Engaged Learning.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators
The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Oversees the design and delivery of career planning workshops, career fairs, networking events, and mock interviews
  • Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates current scope of services offered through Career Development department; plans and directs implementation of new services
  • Consults with employers, industry representatives, and government and educational contacts regarding development of effective recruiting programs/services
  • Oversees and manages data migration and system customization for new and existing technologies
  • Oversees the collection and interpretation of First Destination Survey Data
  • Supports the development of candidate resumes, cover letters, and other employment search correspondence
  • Manages the content and design for Career Services web pages

Leadership and Strategic Thinking
  • Provides oversight regarding ongoing career coaching programs for students needing assistance with developing and implementing an individualized job search
  • Aligns division/department purpose and actions with relevant University initiatives and higher education trends, especially integration of high impact educational practices in academic and professional development
  • Establishes long- and short-term strategic goals based on assessment data, ensuring standards for the department and its field are met or exceeded
  • Adapts leadership based on new information and/or data, utilizing effective strategies to build collaboration

Employee Management and Development
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University's values - integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Oversees recruitment, interviewing, welcoming, observation of, and professional development for Career Services employees
  • Sets clear performance expectations and holds employees accountable
  • Conducts thorough and timely performance evaluations based on evidence, observation, and feedback
  • Mentors student employees
  • Oversees all departmental operations, services, and resources

Job may require other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 5 years' experience coaching job candidates with varied cultural backgrounds and learning styles
  • Master's degree in counseling, human resources, or related field preferred
