The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with Human Resources Manager and Director of Administration by providing support when needed. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, and performance management, on boarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.
Responsibilities of the position
§ Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel
§ Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures
§ Maintains confidentiality of all information and ensures employee records are secured in locked file cabinets
§ Accurately files relevant documents in employee files; maintains personnel files, benefit files and confidential files updated for current and inactive employees in an accurate and timely manner
§ Completes employment verifications of employees in accordance with corporate policy
§ Participates in developing department goals and objectives
§ Audits and approves payroll for processing
§ Monitors the performance evaluation program and administers compensation changes with the guidance of senior management
§ Assists in evaluation of employees when requested by providing input on performance reviews
§ Performs benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefit information to employees
§ Administers and maintains FMLA, Short term disability, and Workers Compensation records
§ Generates reports and correspondence as necessary
§ Assists HR Manager with EEO-1 report annually; maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations
§ Assist Human Resources Manager by participating with insurance brokers to analyze and recommend annual benefit renewal and design in preparation for open enrolment and renewals
§ Conducts recruitment effort for all internal candidates in conjunction with hiring managers; post internal vacancies, coordinates interviews, collects interview notes, creates promotion letters and decline correspondence for hiring manager to present
§ Conducts new-employee orientation
§ Handles employee relations counseling when needed
§ Prepares exit packets and conducts exit interviewing
§ Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars
§ Assists HR Manager with maintaining company organization charts
§ Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed
§ Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database when applicable
§ Back up support to HR Administrative Assistant for payroll processing
§ Assists HR Manager/department maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
§ Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Education & Certifications
§ A bachelor’s degree preferred and or three to five years human resource experience, SHRM certification a plus.
§ High regard for confidentiality and discretion
§ Solid decision making and judgment ability
§ Strong attention to detail; excellent proofreading skills
§ Self-motivated
§ Solid understanding of basic employment law
§ Ability to multi-task and prioritize well while under pressure
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of personnel
§ Ability to serve as a coach and mentor employees of other positions in different departments, including management
§ This job operates in a professional office environment with an occasional need to enter the warehouse for bulletin board postings, and addressing the needs of production employees
§ This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax and scanner machines
§ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary
