Job Overview/Summary: The Finance Specialist assists the finance team in accurately controlling and managing the implementation of accounting systems with a primary focus on supporting the IRC in Denver, Colorado. The Finance Specialist provides internal and external partners with timely, accurate and understandable financial information and reports.
Major Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with IRC's accounting policies and procedures, as well as generally accepted accounting principles and donor requirements, for both the office and donors.
- Coordinate the implementation of IRC's internal control procedures to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Support daily financial activities:
- Prepare and process invoice journals and vendor payment journals.
- Process invoices and report on Accounts Receivables.
- Process reversals and reclassifications among journal entries.
- Resolve journal entry discrepancies.
- Assist in month-end/year-end closing tasks:
- Prepare monthly billing with review of account transactions to ensure accurate coding and completeness.
- Produce variance analysis report.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive understanding of donor policies, regulations, and procedures, and share this knowledge with the programs team.
- Coordinate with program departments for smooth process of client payments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Two (2) years of post-secondary education or equivalent experience working in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or administrative support, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- Strong commitment to ensuring the success of the IRC mission while adhering to the values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality as defined in the IRC Way.
- Solid computer-based accounting skills, including spreadsheets and other financial related software programs.
- Proficient in general office software programs like MS Word, Excel, email, and internet.
- Proven track record to work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Ability to optimally work with remote teams through telephone, email, videoconference, and other methods of correspondence.
- Fluency in English, written and spoken.
Working Environment: Standard office work environment.
