Payroll Specialist / Accountant
This positon is 98% remote but we require the person to live in the state of Colorado for customer relations.
Boos Financial Services provides accounting and CFO services to several charter schools throughout the state of Colorado. We are seeking an energetic Accountant to join our team. This position will share in the responsibility for all accounting duties for several of our charter school clients, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, various employee benefit reconciliations, various ledger account reconciliations, grant accounting and tracking, financial reporting and payroll. To be successful in this role, the following experience and skills are required:
Experience:
- 5+ years payroll processing
- 5+ years bookkeeping experience (all areas of QuickBooks strongly preferred)
- 5+ years working with Microsoft Excel & Word
- 2+ years School District, Charter School or Governmental Accounting Experience. (preferred)
- 2+ years budget management (preferred)
Education:
- Bachelors Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- CPA and/or related audit experience preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Highly detailed and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines while working on multiple tasks for different charter schools.
- Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal direction from manager.
- Must possess the ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
- In depth understanding of general principles and procedures of accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, and fiscal record keeping.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal form possessing excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
Primary Duties:
- Works with senior management and school staff to ensure the appropriateness and accuracy of monthly accounting.
- Processing of monthly payroll and benefit reconciliations for several schools.
- Work with school management to understand issues and how they impact the financial results as well as educate/inform them on cost drivers and variances.
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports and other ad hoc financial reports.
- Monitor budgets/track necessary adjustments and provide guidance to school management.
- Grant Accounting: Monitor and maintain grants to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure that assigned grants do not exceed the allotted budgets and matching revenues. Prepare and submit requests for reimbursement.
- Prepare necessary audit work papers, reporting schedules and adjustments for the annual audit.
- Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with schools to consistently improve customer service.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, and/or accounting.
- Other accounting duties as assigned.
