An Optical Network Engineer plays a crucial role in the implementation, and maintenance of optical network infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the reliable, high-speed, and low-latency transmission of data over optical fibers. The engineer is responsible for the successful maintenance of optical network solutions and the optimization of network performance.
Your Roles and Responsibilities:
- Uses relevant tooling to troubleshoot, identify and remediate optical networking issues in a global wide optical network at scale
- Analyze data to diagnose and identify root causes to network and tooling issues.
- Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources
- Deployment and commissioning of Optical devices such as Ciena and Infinera in new PoPs and Datacenter builds.
- Develop & update documentation, work cross functionally to develop and enhance network design & production workflows.
- Configuration, build, roll-out and testing of new DWDM line systems deployments, calibration, verification, BERT, etc.
- Work on DWDM Deployments, Wavelength Deployments & Transport Deployments
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ciena and/or Infinera certifications or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge on DWDM components such as ROADM, Mux/Demux, Amplifiers, Transponders. Channel creation, optimization to include extensive troubleshooting
- Detailed experience working with OTDR equipment to quickly establish fiber optic breaks for immediate remediation
- Experience in Chassis installation, line cards installs PCR’s and structure fiber installation
- Experience in device installation and testing, software/firmware upgrade, re-bootstrapping and decommission.
- Experience in network optimization (re-stripes, migrations, upgrades, swaps, capacity upgrades).
- CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent knowledge.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP
- Strong understanding and preferably hands on experience in commonly used routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS)
- Multivendor testing and support experience.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure.
- Solid understanding and configuration experience of Channel builds and cross-connect builds.
- Good knowledge on DWDM testing methods and tools.
- Solid understanding of fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies.
Salary Range
$79,563.00 - $123,000.00 USD (Salary)- Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.
