The Communication’s Program is seeking a talented Communications Manager (Communications Consultant 5) to lead communications for the Headquarters Office inLacey, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.
In this role, you will help Ecology’s leadership connect with the people of Washington, and help our agency share its work and priorities. You will lead internal communications and guiding key projects for the agency, the Executive Communications Manager is a senior member of the Ecology communications team and an important contributor to our success.

Duties
What makes this role unique?
In this role, you will work closely with every environmental and administrative program leader, other Communications Managers, and the central web/digital team. You will provide leadership to and coordinates with junior-level Communications Consultants, outreach and public involvement staff, and web coordinators.
What you will do:
- Be a collaborative member of the agency communications team, and the only Communications Manager dedicated to executive communications spanning high-profile, high-priority issues and projects across the entire agency.
- Serve as a senior-level Communications Consultant and producer for agency leadership, with emphasis on agency director priorities. It leads key projects, and works in close collaboration with various teams at all levels of the organization.
- Lead external and internal communications to explain, educate and engage diverse audiences.
- Develop and implement complex communications and public involvement strategies and activities.
- Lead issues management and serve as media relations lead and spokesperson for Ecology issues.
- Serve as lead planner for agency-wide events, meetings and messaging.
Qualifications
Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time. We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:
- 30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
- 20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent
Eight (8) years of experience and/or education.
Experience: in information, journalism or public relations.
Education: in journalism, communications, public relations, or closely allied field.
